Which chicken breed have you found to be the friendliest?

My friendliest have been
Barred rock
Speckled sussex
Silver grey dorking
Turken
And the absoulute friendliest was a old english game bantam. She would peck at your shoes and pants to get your attention. If you still ignored her she would fly up on you. She did this to a couple visitors in the yard and really freaked them out! Most of the time she was looking to be hand fed, but sometimes would snuggle down in your arms and go to sleep.

I second the Bresse. I have three of them. They are first at the gate to greet me and absolutely love sitting on my lap or shoulder if I let them. They are also very calm, not skittish or flighty in any way. It's not just one of them, but all three. I have nine different breeds right now. When the time comes they may all get replaced with Bresses I'm that impressed with them.

I checked out the articles on the different chicken breeds and almost all of them were listed as friendly LOL. I have had Two leghorns and one barred rock. Both are friendly and we’ve had them for several years, But all of them are skittish about being held. I know this is normal chicken behavior but are there any types that you’ve had that just seem extra friendly And even seem to enjoy being handled than others? Or, do you find that it really just depends on the particular chickens personality or perhaps how much you have handled them as They have grown?

Yes, there are breeds that are friendlier but individual differences, too. Orpingtons are known to be friendly but I hatched one out that was the meanest pullet I’ve ever seen. She was an American Orpington, not English. I don’t know if that was the difference, but I’ve never had an English Orpington that was mean. Most of my Australorp roosters went rogue as they matured but I had a blue “Lorpinington” cross that was just as sweet as the English Orpingtons.

Hm. Was it the fact that she was from a hatchery? Some people say that breeder birds have better temperaments. I’d love to hear more about that from more people’s experiences.

As for me, I don’t have a lot of experience but my 2 d’Uccles are incredibly sweet and docile, and easy to tame.

My Buff Orpingtons are all sweethearts! I have a favorite though, my Sassy Britches! She was the first to jump out of the shipping box! The first to drink, eat, jump out of the brooder to explore the garage!
Then we had to move them to a small prefab coop in the garage. She ran up the ramp just like she knew what she was doing. BO's are the best!
