Which egg collecting container?

Thanks for so many replies! I have a couple of soft plastic flat bottom baskets w/ handles I got from Wal-Mart a while back for $1/ea. thinking they would be good. Time will tell. A towel or some scrap fabric in the bottom is a great idea.

Right now I only have 6 hens laying so I get 3 or 4 eggs a day and generally I just carry them in my hand. I have a wicker basket waiting in the wings for when everyone else decides to get started!

i have used both wire egg baskets and a wicker basket. flat weave not traditional.

personally if i end up having to wash an egg quickly with a hose i like the wire.

my favorites are actually the summer wire baskets from dollar general. they are $2 and hold up very well.

I use a wire basket; I buy ones in the laundry supply area in my grocery. They have a flat bottom, a rectangular shape, and 2 handles that fold down. No idea what their intended use is, but they hold around 2 dozen eggs I think, fit perfectly in the refrigerator, and go in the dishwasher.

We have a wire mesh basket that we picked up at a yard sale for $1.00. It is really neat and I wish I knew where it came from.
It is in the shape of a chicken, the wings fold up to make nice handles up over the back and the back of the chicken or the top of thr basket is the opening in which we put the eggs, it holds about 18 eggs and it fits on the top shelf in the refrigerator with the wings / handles folded down on the side of the bird/basket. I will try to photograph it later and post the picture.

A wicker easter basket. I have kids, so we have TONS of them!

One person once posted that she uses the satin lined basket from her wedding. I thought that was a neat use of something that will never be used again. Mine's been sitting in the attic for 16 years now wrapped in a trash bag.

Well this is my second year with collecting eggs. At x-mas I was given a wire basket and for the life of me I always end up at the coop without it. sooooo I hand carry them, put them in my pocket, lay them down outside while doing other stuff and find them again later. If there is a lot then fold up the front of your tee shirt and carry them that way.I have even been known to put them in my bra. Last week I put one in my bra and forgot about it. Later when I went to put on my swimming suit I threw the egg across the bathroom because I forgot it was in my bra and that was hours ago when I collected them.

Because I collect so many eggs, I take out 2 (24 count flat egg crates). If I used anything else, it would be a total disaster.
