Which hatchery?

Ok, thanks! I looked at both, still thinking of where to order from MPC or the otherone (meyer)

MPC doesn't necessarily drop ship. They lease a section of Meyer's facilities, though I am not clear if they simply buy the chicks from Meyer outright or just give Meyer a percentage of the cost? Regardless, MPC has their own sexer(s) for bantams at the least, and they offer their own customer service.

The reason their shipping is so high is because express shipping is mandatory-- because of the small number minimum chick order, they must ship express so that the chicks arrive asap. Less chicks means less bodies to keep each other warm for long periods of time.

I really like and Reccomend Mt.Healthy. their stock is really like the old types of chickens, one lady who works there told me they have stuck to the same line of barred rocks that they first had in the 30's. and they are real big birds too! I ordered their Rhode Island Reds, Delawares, Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons. I was really impressed with the delawares, they don't look like hatchery stock at all! neither does none of their stock! they're the best in my book! They are all good chickens!!!

For what it is worth I ordered smaller orders ($25 worth...came out to be about 9 chicks which ended me up with 4-5 hens usually) from Ideal and was very happy with them. I did get packing peanuts but I simply listed them on craigslist for free and was able to get them a home the same day. I was honest about the fact that they were likely all roosters and was able to narrow down what breeds they were most likely. The people who took them wanted to raise them up to butcher, which is fine with me. I also gave alway the extra cockerels I got once they were old enough to tell the same way.

I would recommend Meyer. You can order as few as 3 chicks - and I've been very pleased with their service and the quality of the chicks.
