We doubled the size of our fish tank, they loved it and grew impressively bigger.

Or try..... hmmm.... what about more chickens?

Seriously though, indoor bantams are AMAZING (though not exactly low-maintenance...)

Not necessarily. They need to be in the most natural habitat possible.

Think about it.
Something that needs heat, special foods, more space than a desk..... will that be nice for the animal? I would not keep a tarantula on my desk.

Special foods? No more special than having to go buy chicken food. Chickens have to have heat in winter sometimes, and heat always as babies. Reptiles need calcium, as do chickens. Chickens are also considered exotic.

Ya, chickens aren't wild animals. Exotic pets, or pets that do live in the wilderness and have wild habitats, won't be happy in a small cage on a desk. Wild pets like turtles and things like that shouldn't be kept in a cage or tank.
