Which would be more practical for a new chicken keeper.

PaulaSB12, your profile doesn't say, but I'm guessing you are in the U.K. so your needs may be different than those of us in North America., but as already stated, have the coop and run ready before you get, or order, either chicks or pullets. It is NOT pleasant having them in the garage for more than a few days. I got chicks in June and got my first egg Christmas Day, so it can be a long time before you see any eggs at all. Are you prepared to wait for what may be months? Next time I may go with pullets...

oops..just re-read the thread and you do say you are in U.K....sorry.

Hahahhaa. You have pets with personality. Because that is how you raised them. When people put a puppy in the yard and throw food once a day they get nothing more than a dog. When you interact with them and learn from them and teach them you have a different relationship.... And yes it is then that you notice you have pets with strange behaviors. Just wait until you have chickens !!
