White Eye, it is a pattern where the center of the ocelli will be white.

so if he was split to pied or split to white, wed be seeing more white, right?

Not necessarily. A Dark Pied can have no white whatsoever and Pieds do not have white eyes although the entire feather can be white. Split to White and split to Pied can look virtually the same so you have to either test breed them to find out or know the parents.

and if any of my hens were split to white, pied or WE, you'd see some white on them as well?

but there's no indication of being split to black shoulder, is there?

Split to BS will have no visual indication. Some people will argue this bird is but we see the same smattering of black iridescent feathers on the wings of low Spauldings in Australia where they have no BS birds.

@KsKingBee you're awesome. we have had pied and white in previous generations but they've just been left to their own devices so I have no idea what ended up in this particular bird. I'm down to 2 males and 2 females (and 1 male 1 female born this spring from someone else's stock) but I dont know what mine carry. I plan to lock the black shoulder up with the hens for breeding season and hope for the best. last year coyotes killed three of our hens on nests so I'm not taking any chances with them having hidden nests.

spaulding more or less means has some amount of java blood, yeah? our white male was allegedly half java so does that reduce the quality of any offspring he had?

Spaulding is a cross of any IB with any of the three types of Greens. I do not believe there are any of the true Java left in the USA. Spaulding does not decrease the value of a bird, however, it does increase the vibrancy of colors. In some cases, it does not help but in general, it produces very beautiful and stately birds. These are higher % Spaulding birds and are much more expensive than regular IB's.

oh! I saw someone's post about their bird not having spaulding and I mistook the tone to mean spaulding is bad. your birds are beautiful.

I dont know the parentage of the bird that I'm told was half java half IB but he was all white and was born probably 20 years ago. Hes deceased now.

Spaulding is kind of a mixed bag, pun intended. There are those people that will say 'you should keep the birds pure' and others will say 'if it is important to you then you do it'. And there are those that do, kudo to them. But the fact is they exist and we have to live with it. Most IB's have a little Spaulding in them and are hardly noticeable, low to mid-high range the colors are just off although brighter, but the high % Spauldings can be quite remarkable.

Greens do not do well in cold climates. They and High Spauldings can not take cold below freezing except for a day or two. I have a heated barn here kept at 40* or I could not have them.

There are only a handful of breeders that have quality Green peafowl and they all live in the south.
