I didn't know that heterozygous recessive white bird were "leaky" like that too. I see it with mottling, but didn't know of any other cases where you could visibly see that a bird was heterozygous for a recessive trait. This is very interesting. It may also help prove a long held theory that you can "see" whether a bird is split for the cream gene.Brothers witht he same White gene. Both can make more Whites when taken to Whites OR take a recessive White/Buff girl to the recessive White/Buff boy and make more Whites.
I know my heterozygous whites aren't leaky in my pheonixes as far as I can tell. But it's also a different recessive white than most breeds have tooI didn't know that heterozygous recessive white bird were "leaky" like that too. I've never seen it with my recessive white legbars when bred back to duckwing birds, either. Maybe there's just something about how it interacts with Buff.I know my heterozygous whites aren't leaky in my pheonixes as far as I can tell. Recessive white? That's usually associate with dominant white. If this is happening when both parents are white, it's usually because one is dominant white and one is recessive white. This is causing a big mess in Bresse right now.I've seen an occasional stray feather that is black on a recessive White bird.
My naked neck is that way. Tiny black little head feather every milt. Usually the first to go when someone picks at her thoughI've seen an occasional stray feather that is black on a recessive White bird.

IndianapolisMust be somewhere cold. A couple of my males have combs that look like that after the winters we've had in Texas the last few years.
