White spot on head sex link trait?? CONFUSED!!!

I am so glad you posted these pics. I am trying to figure out what TSC sold me.. They really o need to be more informed on what they are selling..

seems from the reply s most are in favor of Barred Rocks?

I have another singe girl that looks much the same except that she has white on her face and ears and white tips on her tail but barred also.

thanks for sharing

If they are barred rocks, then the white spot on the head of the female will be more "focused" and the white spot on the males will be more scattered. I'm not sure of the accuracy of this method but many other people have posted on here about this trait.

I am really scared I have a bunch of roos

This is our first time with chickens and I really want at least 2 hens out of the bunch..... and the neighbors are already commenting on how they hope we don't have any roos

Wouldn't mind 1 roo, We are outside city limits but I do wanna consider my neighbors...

I had read that about the area size indicating male/female but honestly they all looked pretty much the same and did look a bit "spread out"

If ALL those with white areas on their heads we saw at BOTH stores are males....... well they sure were sent a LOT of males...

It runs pretty true. I had three last year. One had feathered feet and we did not notice....thus, Sweet Harry, my Barred Cochin. The other two were roos also.

On Barred Rocks the darker they are the more likely they are female also. The roosters are grayer looking.
So the girls are black with white barring.
The males look more gray because they have much more white barring.

IMHO....someone can correct me if I am wrong am only going by my experience.

Oh, and yours are black looking to me with white barring. Just sayin'

in the BR what about male/female getting tail feathers earliest? One of mine looks more black than the other 3....

those could be really bad quality BRs, but with that barring as blurry as it is I'm guessing Black Star (sex-link) roos, which look like BRs but the barring is blurry and irregular. If I could see a better photo of the chick in back, I could tell more, but from what I see that looks like a Black Star pullet, which are predominantly black with red bleed-through on the chest and sometimes on the neck. I'd be mighty suspicious that someone shipped Black Stars instead of Austrolorps. Were you specifically wanting lorps? If not, don't despair - Black Stars are feathered laying machines! Although I realize you may not have wanted roos...

why do you say pullet? What are you seeing? Is it the coloring.... OH I would LOVE for them all to be pullets....

Came back to see what speckledhen said....because she has the experience and I only have what this last year has given me! But I was surprised when I bought two BR hens and three BR pullets as to how black they were compared to my roo!
