I know this thread is quite old, but I'm keen to hear the outcome. I have exact the same situation.

You have bred white Sussex. Yes it is possible to breed a different colour out of pure bred light Sussex. It just means they carry the white Sussex gene. A similar thing happened to me with my light Sussex, both the hen and the rooster were pure bred, but I got corrination Sussex (lavender Sussex). I was told that this happened because they carried the lavender gene. (Sorry this is so late)
