My family and most of my neighbors get free eggs. I just want to help my family out, and my MIL especially loves them. My mom has been eating them, but decided to go back to store-bought white eggs, as she said that is what she was raised with in Europe, and I just think she looks at the brown ones and thinks of how my dad loved them. She didn't like the green ones, either as she said they tasted "different". I guess it's possible that they do, as the bird that lays those is low on the pecking order, and tended (until recently) to eat mostly crumble, and not so many treats/greens as the others.
As far as my neighbors are concerned, we live in a small city, and though there are no anti-chicken ordinances, we depend on their good will (and lack of complaints) to be able to maintain our flock(s). It's just a special little perk for them. . . for having us as neighbors.
I have actually sold a few dozen at my work place. Two yesterday, and will sell another dozen today to someone who didn't get a dozen yesterday.
Everyone has been very appreciative so far, and it just feels so good to be able to help others out with something so pretty, tasty and healthy.
If we have our new chicks and the original flock laying during the summer (before moult) the extras will go to a food bank.
