Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

Micbike, you know that Cornish Rocks are meat chickens, right? Meant to be fattened up over a few weeks' time and then butchered. I ask because most who raise meaties don't cuddle them or give them names.

Im new as well. Got 5gsl from free chick day. But lost one just yesterday

I really want to place an order for some RIR. But maybe next year. I hope I can get these girls all laying in about 6-7 months!

No debit, I didn't know that. And actually, that must not be what they are, because I specifically asked for layers. I can't remember that they had there, as far as names of breeds.

I got six chicks at Tractor Supply yesterday. They're about 2 weeks old, per the folks at TS. I have three different breeds- 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Rock Cornish, and 2 of another red breed but not sure which. I have a large aquarium as a brooder in my home office. I've named 3 of them so far the biggest and the one that appears to be the leader is Leona, the smallest is Millie and one of the Rock cornish is Marie. This is my first experience with chicks and I am loving it. They are so much fun to watch. They peck the glass bottom of the tank, run at their reflections in the glass, fall asleep standing up or with their beaks in the feeder. And they peep all the while they are awake. My only complaint is that I can't keep the pine shavings out of their water. :/ Here are a couple of photos.
The one in your hand looks like a leghorn, which is a layer breed :)

I elevate their water on some kind of sturdy platform and surround it by flat rocks for the chicks to stand on - helps eliminate shavings in the water. Or if your waterer is tall enough, you may not need to put it on something higher, just surround it with rocks so they can't kick as many shavings into it :)

I have 50 chicks in transit now from Whitmore Farms. I'm so excited I can't sleep!! Got a mix of Welsummers, Marans, and Ameraucanas with 5 surprise chicks.

Anyone else have chicks headed their way this week?

Yup, I figured that out. I put some flat plastic containers turned upside down under the feeder and waterer and it helps immensely. They all seem to be able to reach it. Thanks for the suggestion!
