Who else got some 2013 chicks?!

Ours arrive sometime this morning. It's been storming most of the night so hopefully they come in early so we can run into town and pick them up. They're 3 days old and scared I'm sure. Poor wittle fuzz butts. Brooder is all ready to go and pre warmed for their arrival. Happy belated birthday to me, but they were born on my birthday. YAY... I'll never forget their ages. I will post pics later today.
Oh yay! Enjoy those fuzzy butts :)

I tried to resist the fuzz butts this year & wasn't going to add to the flock but.....

Then this little one got abandoned at the local high school & brought to me. So they cant be alone right? Its just not fair :) Too cute not to have a buddy or 2. So.....

Now there are 3.

We just got ours on Monday morning. We ordered 10 but got another one free from Healthy Chicks and More in Ohio. They have a 10 chick minimum and allow you to mix 'n match the breeds you want...and they will send them all at the same time. They all arrived safely. We ordered all pullets: 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Light Brahma, 1 Buff Brahma, and 1 Dark Brahma, 2 Black Austrolorps, 1 Black Jersey Giant, 1 Speckled Sussex, and 1 Plymouth Barred Rock...and another that's a mystery! All are very healthy and doing well to this point except one little black chick that has an involuntary head shake (almost tic). It doesn't do it when it's sleeping, only when it's awake. She doesn't seem to have balance problems, eating or drinking problems, or anything else. I did however catch her cheeping very loudly last night when all the others were laying down sleeping...and she was just standing there :( We're feeding a chick starter feed (non-medicated), have added a bit of very fine sand to the feed, and have kept the water/waterer very clean (mixing powdered vitamins with the water). I'm hoping it just subsides but am a bit worried at this point. I'm already very fond of our new babies!

We got our first chicks this year, too! They are about 2 weeks old right now. We got 6 mixed pullets from the local tractor supply, but my friend guessed they are mostly sex links. I'm brand new to chickens, but heard they are good layers which is great! We're supposed to be getting some from a friend soon, too. They are still in the incubator waiting to hatch so I'll see how many she ends up with, but we don't want more than 12-16.

Here are a few pics from the other day!

i also got 4 new girls this past march.i'm a first timer also. my girls are very spoiled, and grew so fast. just waiting for winter to go away so they can go to their new home. so excited to see them running around in more than just the brooder.good luck to all.

I get my babies may 15th. Two buff Orpingtons, one barred rock and one Amerucana . I'm getting them from Meyers Hatchery( they were the only one that would let me order just 4). This is my first time and as may 15th gets closer I get more excited. I just hope the post office here in Irmo sc calls me as soon as they get here. This is a picture of my coop. It's small so that's why I only got 4

Oh yay! Enjoy those fuzzy butts :)
Thanks! We sure will.

They arrived safe and sound and have gotten warm, drank a bunch and eaten pretty well. I hated leaving them alone, but I know they'll live w/out me for awhile.

Here's a few pics. We got five each (all pullets) of Black Australorps, Cuckoo Marans, and Black Jersey Giants. Funny is that the largest of the group, the JG are the tiniest chicks. They're quite feisty, too. I think they're going to be the trouble makers.

Enjoying their first drinks of water.

The Cuckoo Marans have pink heads. Awww.

They're all cute, but the BAs are the CUTEST things EVER!! Their faces and eyes are so sweet. Ignore my nail polish (I am an adult but got bored.) The chicks loved pecking at my nails and my rings.

Enjoy those chicks everyone!

I got my first chickens this year, and boy, do I have a TON!

I got 4 free hens a year old from a lady on Facebook: 3 Rhode Island reds and 1 barred rock, they are laying 2-4 eggs a day, very tame, and love to be handled.

From TSC:
6 mixed pullets white and tans, looks like a few reds in there also
2 black sex link straight run

5 silkies from craigslist

7 marans from craigslist getting Saturday

And some ordered from our local feed store, will be a day old when shipment arrives on may 7:
5 sliver laced wyandottes
5 golden laced wyandottes
5 aracaunas
2 California grey leghorns
1 light bramah

Going to keep busy this summer :):)

So far for 2013, I have ordered 15 Barred Rocks that will be here in May! Thinking about getting some Silkies and meat chicks! :)
