Who else is waiting for that first egg?

That is exactly how ours were acting, we put a golf ball in each nest box.. and they laid in there, first eggs yesterday and today golf balls kicked out LOL
Not sure if the golf balls made a difference but didn't hurt.
Good luck

I absolutely love this time of year - it is so much fun to see/hear the excitement (especially from those with their first flock) as the first eggs from the spring pullets start to roll in. Congrats to all who have begun getting eggs, and for those still waiting - may your wait not be too much longer!

Waiting and waiting. Our younger chicks are finally big enough that they dont squeeze through the fence around the pen. Still got til september at the earliest for the older chicks to lay.

Could anyone tell me average ages for the first egg for new Hampshire red, black Australorp, and dark brahmas? Wattles. And combs vary a lot between breed and bird. None. Are very pronounced yet.

me too, exactly! The littlest tried to squeeze through the hardware cloth and she doesn't fit anymore! September should be th big month of surprises for me too!! So exciting! All my birds are different, so I should be able to tell who's laying the first prized eggs.
