Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I understand where you are coming from. We have a tiny backyard and we are rogues, but honest ones. I gave my full name and address to 2 people at city hall who let me know that we are not zoned for "livestock" (which chickens are lumped into) but we won't have a problem if no one complains. With the wild birds in the area, I can't imagine ours would be louder and we won't keep roosters but we are still doing our best to keep all noise and smells down.

Even so, we arse anxious to hear the egg song in our backyard!

Now, Chickenprincess92, you really make me laugh and that's good. I know you want those eggs but are your girls even 18 weeks old yet? I mean, the sex links do start laying early and I don't remember if you said what breed you have. But just think, most likely in another month you'll be starting another thread about what to do with all those eggs! And if you don't, I'm pretty sure I will! The eggs are coming, really, really, really they are!

Yours might do like mine, start laying one at a time, two or three weeks apart. I had first egg from one of 7 hens about 20 days ago, finally got a second girl laying today. They are 23 weeks old right now.

Hang in there! The eggs are coming!

Yes, I thought I had to wait until at least 20 weeks for our eggs. But some of my girls are looking like they might start any day now. It is a long wait, it seems (5 of our girls are 18.5 weeks and 3 of them are only 15 weeks). I keep looking though. Since we free range, I send my kids on egg hunts. I sure hope they lay in their nesting boxes, though. Here's to eggs sooner, rather than later!

I have 5 older ones laying and 4 4 mo olds whom I don;t think have, the older ones still like to lay is the babys nest box so I don't know if one started or not. I am getting some sad attemts an hen noises though from them. I shold do a you tube sad egg song. It is so funny to hear.

I buy eggs from a friend of mine. My oldest chickens are 11 weeks old. My next door neighbor wants to buy eggs from me so I told her I could get her some fresh eggs from my friend and she was interested. So I go get them and she accuses me of lying about having chickens. I told her mine are too young to start laying yet so yes I do buy eggs for now. I figure they will start laying when they feel like it.
