Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Another day and still eggless, maybe we are not feeding them the right feed can you tell me what kind of feed to give them so they lay some eggs?::

You didn't say what you are feeding them but here's what I feed mine.

layer feed to start with - My very experienced feed store lady had me switch my chickens from chick starter to layer feed once they were 16 weeks old.

chicken scratch - she said chicken scratch is not a complete feed by itself but a good addition. I give it every other day or so.

Some table scraps - probably twice a week, mostly veggies. They love cabbage so I give them half a head of cabbage every so often. Also they love watermelon, green peppers, cucumbers. They like yogurt, too.

I put DE (food grade diatomaceous earth) in their feed and I dust their area with it to control internal worms and parasites and mites, fleas and ticks.

Fresh water daily and chickens can seriously waste up some water!

Three of seven hens are laying daily now, the eggs have strong, smooth shells and good shapes. All chickens 23 weeks old.

Only table scraps? No layer feed?

I don't know about the heat - mine started laying in the middle a heat spell where temps were in the 85 to 92 range for about 5 days. But our heat spells here don't last long and I don't think we get the high heat indexes because New Mexico is very low humidity.

Yippee, Durango, you graduated from this thread!!! Can't wait until it's my turn

Hi Chickenprincess. I hadn't seen you posting and i was worried you had given up!

I started mine on layer feed at about 16 weeks. Reccomendation of my feed store. She has been raising chickens for 60 years, very knowledgeable lady.

Mine are about 17 weeks now. Just bought some layer feed that I plan to mix into their chick feed (still have lots!) for a week or so. Put a couple of golf balls in the nest area. No squatting yet but my BR is getting pretty red faced. She has always been the most mature looking so I'm guessing she'll be first, followed by the BO. The EEs look a ways off yet. When people ask if my chickens are laying yet, I casually say, "No, it will probably be at least a month or so." But in reality, I'm already looking
