Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I have been posting constantly on this site complaining about the wait. then thurday nite when we went to put them up for the nite I opened the nest box 1 more time for good measure, and there it was a little brown egg. It was amazing to see it in there, trust me I know the waiting can be brutal. It is worth it though. our girls are 17.5--18 weeks old so i was set to complain for 2-4 weeks more, but dont have to. hang in there it will happen about the time youve given up.

I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!! Our cinnamon queen, Frida, just laid the cutest little egg! She was very quiet about it, Bubbles, the BO, sang the egg song for her and when she got off the nest, she seemed dazed and a drained. She got a special yogurt treat

Hmm. One of my chickens I would SWEAR was singing the egg song last night before beddy bye. She is the one who is the most mature and has the reddest comb and wattles - went in, sat on the roost and just started cluck cluck cluck baGAWK loudly over and over for no reason. Did it for 2 or three minutes straight and then jumped down. No egg, but then again she is only 13 weeks old. Should I start looking in the nest boxes just in case?!?!?! It's a RIR (hatchery). Weird!

Little green eggs!!!!

I went out to do my daily feed/water/disapointing egg check today and there in the middle of the coop was a little green egg!

There is a weird little alcove in the coop that I can't see and was afraid they'd lay in there. I ran in and got my 7 year old to look back there and there were 5 more little green eggs!

Now here's my new question. Why would my EEs lay before my RSLs??? They are all 23.5 weeks old. RSLs are all red and waddley and EEs pink and barely have a comb.

I cleaned out the run to see if they were laying somewhere else but nothin'....

I get to graduate from this thread! We got an egg today! Pictures and so on in a separate post. It was very exciting

One of the pullets laid in the hour I was gone doing errands, just typical, LOL.

The egg is tiny, about half the size of a standard store 'large' size, but it's well formed with a shell and everything though of course it got pretty dirty from being laid in the *run* instead of their nesting boxes, but hey. A nice light tan color. We cracked it open and sure enough, the yolk is a deeper orange and it looked like a nice fresh egg, albeit one with a teeny blood spot.

We are going to scramble this one (as well as the store bought one we cracked for comparison) and give it to our special needs dog, hopefully it will help her body gain some weight. The shell broke before we had a chance to clean it off, so . . . dog food!

Hubby and I are very pleased. We hope that the other two will start laying shortly as well!

I am green with envy over all these eggs that everyone else's chickens are laying, but tonight, I am too excited to be too envious!! Tomorrow, I am off on a 2-1/2 hour drive to pick up two SLWs and I just purchased a used chicken coop for $75 that is in very good condition (wish I had found it before I built one) so I now have room for MORE!!!!

One of my Buff Orpingtons did a very very long squat today!!! She has been doing this for a couple of days, but today she reminded me of a cat in heat!!!!! Any day now, and I cannot wait!!!!! I never in a million years thought I would get so excited over something that comes out of a chickens butt, but, here I am, biting my nails, pacing the floor, pep talking a bunch of miniature velociraptor sounding critters whom I adore!!!!!

I'm waiting too! I have a hen sitting in a box and I sit and stare at her - like that's going to make her lay an egg!! My co-workers are asking about my hens. I think I'll have to take a day off of work when I see the first egg - too much excitement!

I never knew chickens could be so fun!
