Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I asked a chicken feed expert when to feed the hens layer feed and he said when they start to lay i thought it was 16 weeks

Well, I have still not had my first egg (that I know of). We had a HUGE rat-snake leaving the coop area yesterday (first predator I've had near the coop) so I don't know if there have been any eggs or not

I have been on the never ending wiat as well, although i cheated and picked up a welsummer and cuckoo marans that were already laying, the marans has only laid one egg, its soooo frustrating waiting for the others to grow up, but boy when that welsummer lays one you would think we hit the lottery here in our house, it is quite the big deal. something so magical about watching an egg being laid, that is clean, and no chemicals and you can just eat it, wow.

Confession time. I was chuckling at everyone getting so anxious for eggs...and then I did it. Yesterday I picked up a bag of hay from my local feed store. I work on getting friendly with those in charge of our local feed stores (we have 2) and they let me pick up all the hay I need for free. Anyway, I went home and set up the 2 nest boxes with clean hay, and a couple of golf balls. I just can't believe that the nice pretty nests and golf balls haven't spurred them to hope in the nest and lay.

My husband is laughing at my being so anxious. Years ago as a part of my son's 4H experience, we raised 3 flocks of 25 chickens each. Got them as 2 day olds from Murry McMurray. I never felt any concern about when the first egg would arrive. But these girls are each an individual, 5 different breeds, so each quickly recognizable. And I want them to Lay!!!!

I will give it another few hours and then see if they got the hint yet.

My 5 pullets are 15 wks. old and I ordered 2 nesting boxes which will be in next week (I've tracked them with USPS) I really do feel like the chickens are a part of my family and that I'm going to be a grandma soon!!! Waiting, waiting waiting...
