MY BR's turned 18 weeks old (or so, there is some debate to their actual age) today. Your BR pics look a lot like my girls do. Sometimes they look very red, others not so much. I know when they are irritated by the younger lavender Orpingtons they are very red. None are squatting yet, but I have been hearing some strange cackling over the last few days. Loud and with some attitude. Not sure if that is the egg song, never heard it before. I just added a new nesting box over the weekend. AAARG!!
Hello i'm new here and to the chicken experience. My chicks were 1st of july babies(6) RIR's. They are getting big. I lost one to one of my dogs this past sunday when I foolishly lost a grip on his leash. I felt awful. I know that my boy dog can't help himself, He gets in a chicken trance. I adopted him from a shelter for that reason. But he really is a good dachshund. I built a coop from a drawerless birrow. I took the top off and flipped it upsidedown and reattached the top as a door that opensfrom the bottom front of the coop so that I can prop it up with a piece of wood. That allows the girls to come and go as they please or stay out of the rain. It is also fenced in. But recently I decide to let the girls be loose. They are so cool to watch, They stay in the yard and we live on a deadend street, so they are safe from traffic. They're not laying yet< But I can't wait til the day I come across my first egg. I've been getting alot of good info reading other peoples questions & answers. Thanks for all the info.
