Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Mine are 12 weeks (RIR/Leghorns). The RIR's are starting to get a bit red in the comb but the leghorns, nada. I think I'll be waiting a while. At least I'm pretty sure they are pullets. We are installing the nest box in a week or two - it's an extra 5SF in a slightly crowded coop so that's a help. Everytime I go out I say 'good morning, ladies! where's my eggs?'.. Yes, I am impatient. LOL.

I have 6 girls who are 20 weeks and 3 who are 22 weeks. No eggs. Some are turning red in the face and squatting, so hopefully it will be soon. The kids said it's worse than waiting for Santa Claus! I agree.

Also, our roo started actively mating with the girls just yesterday. Is there any sort of correlation between this and egg laying? Will it help the girls get going? Or will it just help them be seriously irritated with a hormonal teenage roo?

I've gotten one egg from my 21 girls but that was almost a WEEK ago. There have been lots of signs that there will be more, but nothing else since last week

I actually think it's worse once you get the first egg and go a week without another. It's such a tease!!!!! I think this whole "egg hunt" is making my hair grey

I'm convinced I have a non-laying type of chicken. You'd think between 24 chickens, 2 geese, 2 ducks and a turkey I'd get at least one egg.

My Delawares are 20 Weeks Old today and I am still waiting! I heard the chicken song for the first time yesterday so am thinking we are getting close. I was really worried because I built them a nest box last week and as of yesterday they had not been in it. I had the windows open because it has been so hot here in South Texas that I figured they needed the air flow but I noticed them starting to make nests in the shavings under the nest boxes so figured they needed the windows closed for the dark or privacy. So after I closed the outside windows to darken the boxes this morning, by this afternoon one of them was standing in the box. She had moved the shavings around and buried the golf ball I had in there under the shavings. Is that normal? I built the boxes a little high and was worried that I had them too far off the ground and that they couldn't fly up to the roost in front of the boxes to get in. I am a first time chicken lady and am not sure of what is normal or not.
