Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

still waiting on the barred rock to lay. Shes going on 34 weeks...We thought she was laying but it was one of the EE's laying a cream colored egg. I thought barred rocks were supposed to be efficient layers!

Not sure who layed (laid?) it and I'm waiting on 18 more. I just wanted to say, we've been below freezing over night all week and I still got an egg, so don't give up if your girls are holding out. You will get it when they are good and ready, which is a good month or two after you are good and ready

BTW my girls are 21 days and 3 weeks.

I just graduated too.

Yeah! My 8 month old polish hen has given me 4 eggs. They are white. I was hoping for some color. Then today my blue EE gave me an olive egg! I am so happy, as I was thinking she would lay either a blue or light green egg. It is not a real dark olive, but definately olive. Now I only have 9 more hens to start laying. Come on girls!

My very first olive egg.

My BO is at least 24 weeks old... I think the others are around her age. Chcaka Khan (EE) is supposed to be 18 months old- I understand her hesitance being the new girl and all (She's only been integrated into the flock within the last 2 weeks).... they all look like they should be laying- bright red comb and wattles, squatting.... what gives?!?!?!?

This may have been said before but there is just way to many post to cover so sorry for the repeat if it is, Most hens do not lay until they are 22 weeks or better ( mine did it at 24 weeks old) look on the floor in corners of the coop because when they lay there first you will find it is and easter egg hunt to find them (mine layed where ever there was a safe place for there first after that they used the nest boxs.... Good luck to all it is hard waiting but now is a good time to think about what you are going to do with all your eggs...

Its been many years since i've had chickens and got some this past spring. They are americana hens that started laying in July. All was great until about 10 days ago when egg production dropped way off. I was getting 6 to 8 eggs a day and now there's only 1 every day or two. The question is does the weather or amount of daylight or something else trigger lower egg production? Seems like they should lay longer than 4 months? Is it time for Fried chicken? Any help is appreciated. Bill
