We had one Orpington back when our flock was all standard sized. they are lovely birds the SQ orpingtons over in Europe are super round and fat compared to the birds we have here in the states. Love them!

I had a RIR for a year. She had better egg production than my orps, but she bullied newbies. Because I hatch a lot, I ended up rehoming her.

The "black thing" is a chicken saddle / hen apron. It protects the hen's back from the rooster when mating. (Sometimes a poor hen becomes a rooster's "favorite" and can end up going bald!)
