Who else misses the good days of movies?

I miss the movies with riveting stories, and dialogue, and acting. Stories so good that crazy action and props werent needed. Like Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, The Verdict, Absence of Malice, Hunt for Red October. Just good stories that keep you glued to the TV so you dont miss a single word. No blood, no gore, no killing anyone. Just good acting, and a plot.

Yes, what has happened to acting as we used to know it? There are so many remakes and comic book movies it seems like no one can think up an original or intelligent movie anymore.

I'm noticing how terrible the "comedies" are too. To me, it's really hard to find a a hysterical movie where you actually laugh. The writing has become poor. For example, I thought the Hangover movie was awful, yet they did a second one. They just don't make movies like Weekend at Bernie's anymore...

Me too. I really prefer the look of hand-drawn animation compared to CGI. CGI is just too "clean" looking, doesn't have the shading that traditional animation does.

It seems like the waxing nostaligic bug has hit everyone. I too love the movies of my youth and there were many great movies then, BUT we have selective memory loss to remember there were just as many bad movies made back then. They just are never shown now because they suck so bad....remember Ishtar?
There are alot of comic book movies out now, people like to go see them because they read the comics in their youth or just like the story. I saw X-Men:First Class the other day and it was absolutely awesome in my opinion.
As good movies with great plots and acting there are still very many good movies made today. Westerns in the past ten years I can think of Open Range(now my favorite western), plus other movies like Appaloosa and 3:10 to Yuma(remake).
I guess I am just more open minded about movies today. I like the CGI stuff, it allows movies to show things that would otherwise be impossible to represent. I love all movies, even some of the bad ones, I am not a fan of the blood and gore stuff but I do love a scary movie.
Sorry, not trying to cross anyone with the post just wanted everyone to be a little more optimistic about things today.

In the not to distant future, you will watch a movie with no actors although they appear as real as any person. Once everything goes to that level, Hollywood will finally die off LOL!

There is still a drive in here in MD. But it is always being threatened...the owner has been fighting to keep it open for the past 10 years.

I think it would be neat if drive ins are more than drive ins. They would have places where people could sit outside on the grass, have picnics, playgrounds for kids, picnic tables, a mini movie museum, a souvinier (spelling?) shop.

turn it into something of an outing and an occasion.
