Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

I've got 2 out!

The "surprise" chick that I was sure had died around day 16 was very sticky and had a bit of yolk left - but he seems very strong, and has QUITE the set of lungs!

I haven't seen or heard anything from egg #3 in awhile...it was rocking around and singing to me this morning though. How much air supply do they have in the egg once they've pipped into the air-cell? I can't see an external pip yet - unless it's on the wrong side of the egg

(I have them setting in a hunk of egg flat.)

Hopefully egg #3 is okay - just watch, he'll probably pop right out in a matter of minutes in the wee hours of the morning.

And hopefully sticky-chick will be alright. I was tempted to open the 'bator

- but it's just a very little bit of yolk left, and when I tore myself away from watching him a few minutes ago, his neck feathers were beginning to fluff up a little.

Is it normal for the temperature to drop in the incubator as the chicks come out? After the first guy hatched, I dropped 1.5 degrees. My humidity has been beautiful and constant though!

Yay, for Sticky Chick! I wouldn't worry too much about him. I had a sticky duckling last time, and I've heard others who've had sticky chicks. They're usually fine in the end.

#3 may just be resting. They can take a couple days sometimes between internal & external pip, so there is plenty of air in there. Here's hoping he pops out for you tonight!

Now, WHY won't any of mine pip? No peeping, no chirping, no tapping, no rocking, no NOTHING so far. Tomorrow is Day 28 (ducks). WHAT is going on? The one whose egg I partially crushed is still moving, so I'm assuming they're all in there moving around. WHY won't they PIP already?? I'm biting my fingernails with anticipation. Good thing I spent most of the day at the park--as it is, I could hardly believe it when NONE of them had pipped when I got back. ARGHHHH!!!

Andrew C, those are the cutest little chicks. I noticed what you have under
them and it looks like that shelf liner I put in my kitchen drawers to keep the
gadgets from rolling around. That looks like a great idea. Can't wait to try it
on mine! Congrats on the new babies.

Hooray for everyone and their popcorn fuzzbutts! iam, I am thinking that you are going to wake up to a beauful morning of peeping cuteness. I'm just so tickled to hear that your little crushed egg is still moving. I don't know the severity of the crush, I can only imagine, but just stay on top of that one, it deserves to live!

My little frizzle is out and drying. I can't wait for it to fluff because as good as the little BCM has been, not much crying...I still feel bad that it's been so long in that brooder without any company! Oh but that little one is CUTE! And already there is personality. No doubt this little stinker must be a cockeral.

Here are my babies today. Looks like four Buff Orpingtons and two Americaunas so far
to me, but not sure. One of them looks a little darker. Maybe a RIR???

Oh dear! Too much fuzzy cuteness! I'm going to reach through the computer and steal your chicks!!! That frizzle is adorable, with the little orange feet. Too too cute. And the little passle of fluffy white chicks... I can't stand it!!

Okay, I'm going to post a picture of my smooshed egg... hold on...

And thank you for the encouragement, Chicky. I'm tickled that it's still moving.

Edited to add: The pencilled circles on the eggs are the air cell at 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and then 25 days (right before lockdown). The crushed egg, obviously, is the one at bottom right. It's crushed partially on the air cell, and partially off, but about the size of the air cell.

Awww so cute specially the frizzle! I've top up the water to the max in my bator - it's very steamy in there now but I'm not opening it anymore so hopefully won't need topping up again! Should stop turning this evening and then fingers crossed only a couple of days left to wait for my own fluffies

Emailed a breeder too to see if I can get some hatching eggs for one last run before the winter. This is addictive!!!

Finally!! A PIP!!! Woo-hoo!!!! Just one out of 12 eggs so far... and still no cheeping that we've noticed.

It was my five-year-old who saw the pip--it is very hard to see. And I was right, at least on this one, that the pip would occur within the circle that indicates where the air cell is. If I'm correct on all of them, then the pips should mostly occur where we can see them.

Affleck--if you do need to top up the water, it's possible to do it without opening the incubator. Someone on this board taught me how. What you need:

One squeezable bottle (I'm using a cheap disposable water bottle, a flimsy one that's easy to squeeze)
Tight-fitting lid OR modeling clay.
Aquarium tubing of a small enough diameter to fit through the vent holes in your bator

I cut a hole in the bottle's lid and pushed the tubing through it. Then I sealed it in with hot glue, to make an air-tight seal. You can also put a glob of clay around the tubing and push it into the opening in the bottle--anything that will make it airtight, so that air and water have to pass through the tubing.

I made sure the tubing reached the bottom of the bottle and then was long enough on the other end to snake into the incubator. I fill the bottle with warm water, put on the lid, and snake the tubing through to wherever I want water in the bator. Squeeze to fill.

It's working great for me.
