Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

I officially went on lockdown last night, 7:00 pm was the deadline. now it's day 19...i know it's still early but am hope ful. early in the incubator i couldn't get it above 98.6 for the first week then i had a spike of 101 for about 30-45 minutes one night, then it's pretty much been 99.5 ever since, except the other day when my water evaporated, i came home to it on 100.8 that was pretty much all day when i was gone, so I hope that didn't hurt anyone:/...oh, poo, if one day ruined it, i will be pretty dissapointed. But I suppose like all of you i will just have to wait and see. I've heard of worse temp spikes and people still having pretty good hatches...soooo...only time will tell...(and a lot of praying can't hurt.)

Hi Stazia!! Welcome to the thread!! And congrats--lockdown is SO exciting. I hope you have a great hatch despite your early troubles. Good luck!!

In my bator: More zippers, including Crushy! Crushy is zipping!! I'm so so excited! I didn't kill my duckie!!

No new pips, but there's time yet!

Cat - I'm so glad your crushed egg is zipping:D I'm sure your positive attitude had a lot to do with it - you've been fun to follow and I hope you have a great hatch. BTW what kind of ducks are they? I love my ducks. I always get the kindergarten chickens but this year only one hatched out and the teacher didn't want it to be alone. The feed store didn't have any baby chicks, just one little roen duck. She loved that little duck so much when she took them home for the week-end it would follow her around - when it was time for me to take them she told the kids they had to put their heads down to think good thoughts for the chicken and duck but really she just didn't want them to see her crying. She said she never felt that way about a chicken. I hope you get wonderful ducks!

Awww--thank you! Those are sweet thoughts.

They are Indian Runners--a blue drake crossed with a blue hen, and the same blue drake crossed with a fawn & white hen. The one that's hatched so far is a blue, *I think*--it's a steel grey color, with a yellow breast, and mottled feet & bill (grey & yellow). I should get blues, blacks, silvers, and... whatever blue x fawn & white makes. I'm really curious exactly what colors I end up with--the two I already have from the same crossing (six weeks old) are black (expected) and a gorgeous fawn/grey/lavendar color that I can't put my finger on--I think she's from the blue/fawn & white mix, because we had another duckling from that batch that died at a week old and I *think* he was a silver, so I don't think that's what she is. But honestly, I'm new to the colors, so I'm just guessing. I just think it's so much fun!

Anyway. Thank you.

I'm delighted that the crushed one is apparently doing well too. I will not be surprised if I have to help it out in the end--with all that membrane exposed for so long, there's a good chance it's relatively dried out--but I'm going to wait and see, and only help if the others are all out and it's still struggling. Or if it appears to weaken significantly. But so far so good!

Okay... all this typing and I still haven't posted pictures. Let me see what I can do...

I have some really cool progressive pictures I'm going to post on my blog of the hatch in progress (it's too time consuming to post them all here--sorry! But I'll post a link to my blog once they're up). Here are a couple of the highlights:

Hi Ma!! I'm coming!!

Hard work. I'm tired:

And one more: Harry (the new duckling--christened by my 5-year-old) is asleep on top of the eggs, with his head right next to the one that is working on zipping. Too cute:

Aww iamcuriositycat, that duckling is adorable! And good luck to crushy.
I've a question - my hatchling isn't fluffing up and I'm guessing it's cos it's so humid in there. Will s/he be ok like that till the morning? My brooder isn't set up yet and I'm wrecked so would prefer to leave it there for now. Can't believe it turned up on day 20! I thought it would be like when I was hanging around for ages waiting for my first daughter to arrive! S/he is doing a good job of trying to wake it's buddys up - keeps climbing over their eggs, and boy is it noisy!

Is your new chick wet, or just sticky? It can be hard to tell just from looking--but sometimes the birds come out with part of the white of the egg smeared on them (I don't know why this happens), and then they dry but look wet still. If it's just sticky, I would let it be for now, unless it's really really bad. And if it's wet--maybe your humidity is too high? What is your humidity? As long as the chick is not cold, you're okay, though. I think.

If you're concerned, you might want to post the question as its own thread, as you'll get more responses that way. But for now, I'd just watch and make sure he/she's not cold (although a little shivering is normal too)...

Okay, I got interrupted by a child, so I've lost my train of thought... anyway, good luck!

Crushed egg duckling is pipped and zipping--and he is zippy, too! lol He's actually further along in zipping than the egg that pipped 12 hours before him. They are kind of neck and neck though--it's hard to tell which is going to hatch first--but I am tickled pink that he's zipping at all. I was worried he might stick to the membrane, since with so much of the membrane exposed he could get shrink wrapped. But he's moving around zipping, so YAY!

Thanks for checking.

I'll post pictures in a bit. I'm working on uploading my progressive hatch pics to my blog, then I'll get some pics of Crushy doing his zip thingy and post them here along with a link to my blog...
