Some good advise there- also choosing a very rare breed and trying to promote it is a good thing too. I have chosen to breed Harlequin and Cinnamon Runners - extremely rare colours of Runners here in Australia. I have been showing for two years and hatch year round so I have a constant supply of gorgeous babies to cuddle any time I want. I hatch to the demand I have for ducklings and young pairs - slowing right down in winter- and have a few extras in my flock to cater for those who just want pets not show quality ducks.
Time and space are a bit limiter to how many ducks a person can realistically care for, but it takes no more to feed a rare breed or a show quality duck. Selling off extra ducklings can help to pay for the cost of keeping the adults year round.
