Who has purchased eggs from ebay ? and what was your hatch rate ?

Georg, Your chicks are cute! Do you have more chicks waiting to hatch?

I have purchased eggs from ebay twice, but never have had them shipped. I search for sellers that are within 100 miles of where I live, and then choose from them.
Last year my sister hatched ebay eggs, but had difficulty controlling the temperature and humidity of the incubator, but still had a decent hatch rate. She actually thought one was dead and cracked it open around day 17, and then realized it was alive. She put it back in the incubator with the cracked shell around it. A few days later she helped it hatch. He was stuck to the shell. She named him "Lucky". :)

I have a few eggs in the incubator now, They are on day 9 or 10. I'm not seeing movement, but embyos appear to be growing.

I think a lot of Bad hatches is because of the GMO food chickens are eating ,
If it can cause infertility in humans why not animals , its also causing abortions its really sad

Ms Steak! Are your eggs in lockdown?

Redhen I have 3 more in lockdown which haven't piped yet, but I candled last night and I think they are still alive, but these eggs are from a different seller to the other 2 so I'm guessing different growth speed right ? Congr

I buy peafowl eggs of ebay all the time. Hatch rates anywhere from 0% to 100% and everywhere in between. For every 100% you will get three 0% trying out the seller. The 100% tells you that your incubator is just fine. You want to avoid the 0% and in my opinion fresh eggs ship best. Eggs over 24hrs old by the time the hit the post office and you are fighting a losing battle already. Some of my best hatches were cross country but the eggs boxed were all laid the night prior so IMO here is what to look for:

1. Avoid the "I have" six eggs (Should say twelve hens laying right now). If they have eggs in hand and I don't care if you have them at 60deg in an automatic rotator the time started ticking before the auction got started. The older the egg the more air cell detachment and scrambled eggs you get. I have seen "I have" 5 day auctions don't throw your money away and beware of relisted items.

2. At least one cock per three hens.

3. Paper or plastic has not affected my hatches at all. Consistently get 80% from one seller that triple bubble bags. (but very clean fresh eggs)

4. Packs pointy side down. Though you don't know how the box ships play the odds.

5. Use a PO box do not deliver to your house. Post offices are air conditioned and first packages to deliver are PO boxes.

When you get them home let them rest 12hr and make sure your incubator is pre-set and checked. Expensive does not mean better both on eggs and incubators. I have bought digital incubators that maintain temperature +-.2F but that is at the thermostat. The egg racks show 1 deg difference from 1 spot to another so everything in the center hatches 1 day later than edges if you don't do some sort of egg rotation. My home built shows 99.3-99.5 and 45% humidity anywhere on egg rollers at all times.

I have.
From 12 Olive Eggers 6 hatched.
From 18 barnyard mix 6 hatched (but mailed from other side of country)
And out of 4 blue copper marans only one hatched, but the seller didn't do priority so they were getting tossed around the mail system for 5 days before I finally got them!

That's not bad for ebay eggs, what incubator do you use ?

We incubated a collection of eggs last year. Some I got here, and some on ebay. We hatched a total of 21 out of 42 eggs that we set - BUT both places I ordered from also included extra eggs so that even if one or two cracked in shipping, I would still have the number I paid for. So, if you consider how many hatched out of the number I ordered, it's closer to 75%. I had been skeptical of shipping eggs, so I ordered more than I really wanted, and was seriously overwhelmed by the 21 ducklings!

And that was using a foam Little Giant that I couldn't keep at a stable temp. Beginner's luck, I guess?

But, I wouldn't hesitate to buy eggs on ebay from a seller with good feedback.
