Who has purchased eggs from ebay ? and what was your hatch rate ?

I have bought most all of my eggs off eBay. I have good hatches and bad. The bad ones I believe are the sellers so now I go with sellers that have more than one breed. Just recently I bought a dozen welsummer eggs from a person dedwards and NONE of the eggs ever looked like they may have come in contact with a roo. The first box she sent had egg running out of the box. Couldn't believe she/he had wrapped the eggs in one of those hospital cotton pads they put on the beds. Second ones came wrapped in paper but those are the ones that hadn't seen a roo. I was disappointed in those. Others have hatched great. One person I use is Helen Bien (bluewaterranch) In Livingston, Texas. She's good and she knows her birds. Just about all I have came from her. I do have a list of those to steer clear of. I bought 12 welsummers from a guy today. I have a broody hen as of today so I'll let the hen hatch these eggs when I get them. The greatest thing is watching a momma calling her babies.
Good luck finding what you want and hatching them. There are always bad apples out there. Just have to weed those out.

Anyone know who to buy barred rocks off of e-bay? I see a few posts but I want a duel barred rocks something I can eat after it's done laying. I tried here on site but no luck so need e-bay links that you have personaly had good results.

Thanks

My first ebay batch went well, blue/splash bantam coachin eggs arrived in good shape, from 2k miles away, didn't have high expectations from the whole thing. Broody hen is turning out to be a perfect mother even though she had been a hatchery chick. Four out of five hatched, which really surprised me. Have her and chicks in a dog carrier for now. She never bites me or does anything other than cluck when I hold her babies.

She and her sister have been perfect hens. Brahmas are wonderful birds. Even though they are bantams, they lay an almost full-size egg.

These coachin babies are so tiny it's hard to believe. She's a perfect, proud mama.

Good queston

Two have hatched so far with two more pips for sure!
The first one to hatch I thought might have a weirdly shaped head but it was hard to tell. I'll study it better when they get moved to the brooder but she's acting fine right now!
The second one hatched but had what looks like the umbilical cord wrapped around her leg and some odd toes on one foot. So I think I'll have to splint the toes tomorrow.

I was wondering if it is common for shipped eggs to hatch chicks with odd qualities and possible deformities?[question
Good question, I think shipped eggs must have something to do with deformities, I've also heard temperatures have something to do with it too !

Out of 8 eggs, I am down to 4 or 5. 1 never developed, and then 2 quit... 4 are moving and the 5th I was not sure if it is still alive or not, so I'm keeping it. they're due to hatch in 5 days. I hope they all hatch. I"m worried though, because they're silkie eggs and I hear humidity can be different with silkies. I have a brinsea mini advance and I just put water in the cup, with LF and ducks, they all hatched out fine. I do worry that the humidity could potentially be too much for the silkies. just not sure how to figure that out :(

Okay my last hatch with my ebay eggs at this stage day 13 only around 6-7 were even showing signs of development which was distressing out of 22 eggs. I now have eggs from a local breeder and out of 22 I've got 17 developed ! I will never purchase from ebay again can't wait for lockdown !!

I too am not purchasing hatching eggs unless I can pick them up or if I can get day old chicks.. So far I won two sets of eggs off of Rare Breed Auctions and 2 off of eBay. The only success we have had were the Rhodebar eggs we picked up instead of having shipped. I am not blaming the seller, I just don't believe the fertile eggs can handle the shipping. The last two we received from eBay were packaged beautifully and we saw development but no hatchlings. The Ameraucana was only shipped overnight from 2 hours away and none hatched.

The curled toe chick worked her toes out by herself in the hatcher. :)
Unfortunately my third chick hatched but did not survive long after she fluffed up. There was a strange bubble around her umbilical cord area.

I candled the remaining eggs and only one is showing signs of movement. I will keep the rest I just in case but if looks like at best I will have 3 hatch out of 12. Not unreasonable, but probably not worth the $35. ;)

I met someone on here who knows a local person who sells chicks of the breed I'm hatching and I will probably pick some up since this particular hatch has been a bit of a bust.

I've still got 8/14 Cream Legbars going.
Hard to tell with the BCMs but 2/12 from one seller are possibly developing. The other set of 15 BCMs could have ALL developing except one but it is of course super hard to tell with those dark shells!

My laced lavender orpington eggs are 4/8 right now. Those eggs were shipped on a plane.
