I have always moved up in any job I had, usually a lot quicker than other long time employees-not the best way to make on the job friends at first, but they all quickly learned that I would never ask them to do something I wouldn't do myself or treat them like it was their first day on the job. (just so you can see I am not a horrible employee)
I have only had one job that I walked away from, I think I gave them a days notice......
I worked at a restaurant (English themed), how they passed a health inspection was only due to the families long standing friendships with the inspector. They would thaw/marinate half chickens on a tray set ON THE FLOOR under the grill. Once I noticed a chicken breast had the chef's boot print on it and went to throw it in the trash, the owner screamed at me at put more plum sauce on it.............ewwwww And then there were the rats, mice and us waitresses soaking wet from hand washing the dishes.
The owner would collect ALL the tips, she put ALL the change in to "her" jar, after all she would seat them (the place was never ever more than half full) Then she would decide what she thought we were worth that day and make sure the cook got the biggest share of the tips. Not sure I ever came more with more than $10-15 for a shift. She would follow me in to the bathroom, in case I was stealing TP or taking too long.
And her hubby would wait til she left and send me on "bend over" duty. To get on my hands and knees, so he could take a good look up my way too short skirt and clean the walls under the booths. His wife would catch him, so she would dock my tips even more.
I was a starving student, often only eating when I worked-and then it was usually a cup of soup and half a sandwich, I hated every second I had to work there. And was walking on air when a former restaurant manager/boss called with a new job for me on Monday. She had answered the phone...lol
There was no sweeter word than as I hung up, "tomorrow is my last day"
They lost that restaurant and the rest of the family restaurants.........and boy did they deserve it! This was of course pre-sexual harassment laws, too bad cause I would have loved to sue for that!
