Who is getting eggs?

Here is a picture that I just took:

Candler being used is a Brinsea Ova-Scope. It's bright enough that I can detect embryos on pea eggs on day 4 or 5.

I did a lot more candling than I should have last year, but I still had really good hatch rates so I don't think it hurt the eggs. I just used a little $2.99 LCD mini flashlight from TSC, but it got to the point where I could also detect them at about 5 days. I was just learning too, so I wanted to get as much practice as possible. Keep me posted on it's progress, I'm curious to see how it does. I just fired up the incubator today. I bought some chicken eggs off of ebay and I think I'm gonna see if they survived the PO. Double laced Barnies, really pretty chickens.

I just looked those up, they are pretty! Any idea what color they'll be? Last year I candled the heck out of mine, too and it sure didn't affect the ones under the hens, great hatch rates on those... My problem is my incubator skills, or lack thereof, lol.

I think my eggs are just the black ones, depending on how they do I may buy some blues. There is a local guy who sells chicks, straight run are $18 each and sexed pullets are $40, seemed mighty pricey to me, so I bought the eggs. Seven of them cost me $10 and $15 to ship, so if I get 2 out of the 7 I'll be ahead. I just hope Spring gets here soon, we have had 2 inches of rain this weekend and right now there is a disgusting mix of rain, sleet, and snow falling on us. My incubator is just a Styrofoam hovabator genesis, but it is almost idiot proof, and I give it more credit for my good hatch rates than I will claim for myself. If you are ever in the market for another small one, I would give it a very high recommendation.

That's why they call it a learning curve!

through my intense curiosity I made a lot of mistakes! But, that was what the guinea eggs were for. I know what to do and what not to do with the peafowl eggs! Have your peahens mates yet?

No eggs yet but the males are all strutting, have heard the matting call a few times, but females have run every time. I hope that they start laying soon!

Another one is hatching since I'm leaving then in the big incubator I'm having no problems. The lat 3 that have pipped have hatched. I think I'm ready for the peachicks! I set aegg a day for 2 weeks. The next 2 weeks are going to be interesting!

Are they leaving a mess when they hatch in the big incubator or is it easy to clean up after each one? I used a separate hatcher to keep the mess out of the main incubator. I've read this can promote the growth of bacteria and germs in your incubator and kill eggs that are still in it. My hatcher is one of those all plastic octagon things and it is super easy to sterilize after each hatching.

I tried that I've small domed shaped hatcher and I lost 4 eggs that were ready to hatch. I starting leaving the eggs in the big incubator and I haven't lost any of them. As soon as I quit hatching I will clean the incubator.

I would definitely clean it before trying any Pea eggs.
