Who is pipping and waiting right now??

Congrats on the healthy chicks and sorry you had to cull one.

I went down to the basement for the 999th time today to check the hatchers and I've got 6 blue wyandottes hatched and at least one more pip on them, plus I can see the first SLW pip in the other hatcher.....nothing on the wheatens yet.

I am waiting on my button quail, does that count? I know they are not chickens. But I am very excited anyway. Today is day 15 and they should start hatching soon. I have read that day 16 is the day but depends on the temps and so forth. So any time now I hope.

Hope everyone else has a great hatch.

It is a good thing I am not home with the 'bator. I will not see it until later tonight, so it will have gone a full 13 hours or so without me hovering and potentially causing more harm than good!

I have 13 fiesty chicks. 2 that I may have to cull.

I cried my eyes out.

It is not easy even when you have dealt with chicks and chickens for many years. I took it out and let it feel the warm sunshine on its body and the fresh cool green grass. I said my goodbyes and finished it. I was snotting and snubbing for a while this morning. It was the right thing to do.

Culling certainly isn't an easy thing to have to do, this was only the second time I have ever had to cull a chick from a hatch....

What was wrong with the chicks that made you have to cull them???

I am on day 19 and have 5 pips!!! It's just as exciting as it was the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The one I had to cull today had a bloody yolk sac and its insides were hanging out.... It had hatched last night and I gave it til today at noon to see if it would start absorbing, it didn't...kept getting worse...

It's always exciting to have a hatch of chicks , the first time or the 100th one...
