I got 1 that just hatched and 4 others that have pipped and the other 5 should be pipping later today after I wake up. Getting ready to go to bed and stop watching for their arrival.
I'm hatching out RIR's, Buff Orphs and SLW. Some pure and some mixes so I will have to wait to see what they are after they hatch.
I have 7 Black Standard Cochins due to hatch tomorrow. I keep looking to see if they have pipped. I am leaving in a bit to go to a BBQ. So maybe when I return home, I will see a sign! I have hatched dozens of chicks, but hatch day is like hatching the very first time over and over again. This hatch is just as exciting as my first one!
I have 1 half-way out of an egg right now. As long as it comes out alive and strong it's name will be "Firecracker" Come-on out and great the world little one! The rest aren't due for a few more days. I know I was bad putting different due dates in the same bator.
I have two of my three eggs pipping that my hen sat on for 21 days, she is off of them now drinking water and I am watching them do their work. How long does it take for them to break free, and is it normal for the hen to be off them while they are pipping?
As I watched my chicks hatch (in the incubator) this morning I was wondering the same thing. How could they get out if the mom is sitting on them? I hope someone at BYC will answer.
