Who is pipping and waiting right now??

I have my first pip on the Barred Rocks eggs I'm incubating for Lockedhearts that she got from Speckledhen! They ALL developed so now we shall see how many hatch! I'm very excited

out of 14 we had one pip late yesterday...and was out this morning
cute little maron/cochin mix. Nothing from the rest of the eggs, but I think I was off with my days, so maybe today is day 21?
I think i will candle a few of the eggs today, later today.

Could be. I had 7 Seramas that hatched over 5 days PAST day 21. I tap on the 'bator and tell them to come out now. It usually works

Seriously, though...I do tap on the 'bator to see if there is any movement or "squeaks" coming from the eggs.

WE have some already hatched , some pecking , some peeping.. We are actually on day 22 so this is a very strange hatch, we always have them start on day 19 or so . Never on day 22 ..

do not I repeat DO NOT crack an egg open until you are sure it will not hatch...after 2 hours of crying my eyes out .....calling myself a baby chicken killer......I am able to type to anyone that cares......do not crack an egg unless you know it is a dud.

I cracked one one the 22nd day...wanting my lone chick to have a friend....and the little bloody mush in the egg was still beating.....I am a baby chicken killer. eeek!!! I will not touch the other eggs for days now. My heart hurts and I learned a leason.....so did my little son (9 yrs old). I feel so bad....I will probably post this some place else so hopefully no one else will do what I did.

now....I still have a lone chick that keeps crying

Well, now it's a bit after 1 p.m. here an I have 3 little furbies running around in the bator! There are more pips so Speckledhen is officially a Grandma once more! I will keep you all updated on the hatch as it happens

Tiff, I am sooooooo sorry about what happened! I do so hope perhaps you will have another one to hatch

That is a terrible thing to experience. I did that once years ago when I was first learning to incubate. I feel for you.

That's okay Tiff. I've waited a couple of days and found fully formed chicks dead in their shells unable to peck out. You may have found one that just had not died yet. Life is cruel to chickens. We just try to make it a little better, and sometimes we fail... Sorry about your experience.

We STILL have babies hatching on day 23 now .. I can't believe this. We had 3 to pass away and 8 already hatched and fluffy, 1 hatching as I type. I have never even heard of one hatching this late. How long should I wait on the others.


I had the same thing last night when I thought it was a piece of a shell from anothe rone thathatched and pulled it off and it was actually where it had peeped , I was afraid it would not be able to get through 2 shells with all the extra stuff on the egg , anyhow , it had pipped and when it finished zipping , it was all bloody , then my baby boy got in the bator and got one out , that luckly had not developed fully, it was just a ball of intestines to look at it that is what it looked like. I had one , that passed, that it's insides were on the outside. What makes this happen and is it normal to sometimes get some like this? It lived maybe 3 hours or so .

What day should I give up , to be honest , I was ready to get shed of the eggs this morning as it is Day 23 and I did not in my wildest dreams think we would have one hatching today , we are almost ready to put in the next batch and so I was ready to through hands up and start cleaning it out (the one had a bunch of green stuff leaking from it and it smells bad!!!) and we have more due the 13th sure hope my silverlaced hatch from that one.. I can't wait to see something different then the RIR and Red Stars.
