Who is pipping and waiting right now??

Bodyflignt: Eggs under a hen are laying on their side, If you are having a lot of problems with upside down pips, Perhaps try laying them on their side when you stop turning them. I've tried both ways with mixed results.

I'm thinking the carton method just isn't working for you... which is odd.

I have never used a carton.. when I say aircells up, I candled the egg... .saw where the empty space was and made sure to put that upwards (toward the ceiling) so as to not disturb baby; but they lie on their sides. maybe that's my mistake... maybe I should try a carton.. I have 3 more eggs, my LAST 3 eggs for the YEAR all 3 turkeys due next week... maybe I should try the carton.. or maybe I should just keep doing what I"ve been doing and try the carton next season.

also... turkey was in a duck turner... so she was ALWAYS on her side​

Well, my first chick peeped this morning, then pipped, zipped and popped out in a couple of hours this afternoon--while we were gone, of course. We're still waiting to see if we're going to get any action from the two remaining eggs. DH is surprisingly attached to this little guy already--he's even talking about buying me a hovabator for future hatches because he was in charge of keeping the temp and humidity in line while I was out of town all day and he found it as stressful as I did. lol

Well here we go again. I have 2 pip's out of 10 egg's on day 19. YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on babies you can do it.

One yellow buff has hatched and is drying nicely. This poor little thing had the hardest time. It was zipped a little more that half way and was trying to push itself out but the shell wasn't cooperating. I'm hoping the other one that has pipped will come on out because she look's like she could use a friend!!! That leave's eight more with nothing yet. I'll have to take my flashlight with me when I go back to look just to see if I missed something. It will be day 20 in a few hour's so I'm not worried yet. Did your last two hatch Heather??? Nope, not a peep from them. I candled again this morning since it was day 22, and one looks like it died around day 14. The other had no movement, but it looked like it was fully formed (filled the egg pretty well). I'm leaving them until morning, at which point I'll candle one last time before clearing out the whole bator to scrub and sanitize before I steal my muscovy's eggs to give them a whirl. Last time my scovy set a clutch, she only stayed on them a few weeks, then wandered off--after she kicked all the eggs from the nest. I'm not sure what she did with them, they all kind of disappeared--so I figure I've got nothing to lose. I'm going to put some chicken eggs in the nest in place of hers, so if she decides to try sitting, she'll have something, and if she lasts long enough to hatch something, that's a bonus. Right now my chickens are laying way more eggs than we can eat so if she doesn't sit on them, it's no big deal.

I'm so sorry Heather they didn't hatch. You sound like me afraid to pull the plug just in case there's a baby inside. I did candle once on some egg's that were late and I didn't see any movement but a couple ended up hatching. So I was wrong. Since my last post another one has hatched and there are 6 more pip's. I didn't see anything on 2 of the egg's yet but sometime's it's hard to get a good view through those little window's and my eye's are not what they once were, darn it!!!! I'm worried about one of the egg's. Usually they make a pip and then zip around the egg. Well this one has made a small hole through the membrane and shell too. It's not trying to zip and I didn't see any movement either, but the hole is so small I could of missed seeing movement. Does anyone know if this egg will hatch O K? The chick made the hole sometime during the night and they are due today. I'm so hoping it will be O K. When I'm not hatching I sell my egg's. I will have customer's waiting in line to get some of my delicious egg's.This soooooo help's with my feed bill.

Our chick piped, zipped and was nearly dry in under three hours (the amount of time my dh was out of the house, of course so neither of us got to watch) , but I know a lot of people say their birds take up to two days to zip sometimes, so I wouldn't start worrying about it yet. The poor thing is probably just resting up after making the effort to break through the shell.
