Who is with me?

Day #2

I will candle probably on day 6. I just pray I do better this time. I let them sit for 24 hours, but my water keeps disappearing in the incubator.

I checked it for leaks and there are none.

ME TOO!!!!

I adjust as often as I need to...I odn't leave the house when I know the temps are going up, and I watch for what the night temps will be.

I keep temps at about 98-100 in my still airs (yes, more than one).

Hatches seem to go pretty well, about 50% between the quail, ducks, geese, and chickens. Pheasants were 1 out of six... and any fancy breeds are total losses or one out of ten ish....

I have to fight humidity due to a very dry climate, too...SO

all in all, I think I am doing ok lol.

Good luck!

DAY #3 - 3 days to go before candling.

My heat is around 100.5 (still air) and humidity fluctuates. So I just keep my fingers crossed and do the best I can.

My eggs do fine and have great hatch rates. My shipped eggs always seem to be a big flop for me.

We have had some major storms over the past two days. The power has gone out 5 times that I know of. My LG did just fine till today. When I left for work my temp was running at 100.9. My wife said we lost power around nine this morning and when I got home around 630 my temp was at 105.3. Today is day five. I went ahead and candled while cooling things down and adding water. Looks like I have 13 of 15 maran eggs and 14 of 16 americauna eggs going strong. Heres to hoping and praying that 9 hours of high temps didn't doom them and that the next couple of days while I am working out of town go smooth for them!

I havent candled yet, I generally dont anymore until at least the 10th day. At that point I pretty much know what I am seeing, lol!

My temps have been hovering right around 101 or so with a still air LG. I know they say 102 is optimum, but I have had my best hatches from 99 to 101. Maybe it depends on the area I am in as well???
Come on everyones chickies!

I just candled my 8 little pullet eggs. One has a swimmer!!! This is day 7, it will be day 8 this afternoon (Wednesday.)

I'm not sure what I am seeing in the other eggs. One has an eye dot with veins but it wasn't moving. Several others are just very dark inside, but the pointed end is clear. And a couple others have the air cell, a solid lightly shaded area, then a dark band, and then clear towards the pointed end.

Hi again. Hope its going well for all of you! My 'scovy eggs are now day 14 and I can see the little duckies swimming around in there when I candle!
The other day my step dad was plowing the field and stopped seconds before plowing under a mallard nest. He called me and gave me an ultimatum "come get the eggs or I'm plowing them under". So I went and got them but now I have a staggered hatch and only one incubator. Also I have no idea how far along these eggs are! When I candle them I see little duckies about the size of a dime swimming around. I hope it goes well!
Good luck everyone!

Well "Day 5," how many of you have already candled? We all know that candling tick, when it comes around it is hard not to do. That I got to know and maybe I can see something thought.

I will candle tomorrow, I am trying to let my shrink wrapped ducks hatch. Which they should be starting today. So far not a sound.

Shrink wrapped is how my last batch of chickens ended up due to my humidity getting so dry. Actually I hope they are not shrink wrapped and make it out, these are for my dinner table.

Some how my incubator has a leak, does anyone know something good to seal the styrofoam with?

Word of advice, never set a cotton towel folded in half under the incubator, it sucks the water out. How? I have not figured it out, but since removing the towel, the incubator has not been completely dry.

Well everyone keep your fingers crossed for my little ducks. Okay some will say different since I will raise them for butcher, but, keep your fingers crossed anyway.
