Who is with me?

I think that my best bet is to do like last time and just "ignore" the air temperature thermometer, focusing more on my egg temp, like WWD said. I didn't make myself crazy that way, other than doubting the accuracy of the thermometer...but I tested it before I put it in this time. Well, I tested it as well as I could figure out how, without being able to read as high as boiling or as low as freezing. I took my temperature, multiple times, with both that thermo and the digital. The kids here thought I was crazy and that I was not feeling well. By the time I was done, the underside of my tongue hurt, but they both always came out just about the same between them and each time I did it, so...

I haven't touched the temperature dial, as I learned quite quickly when I first set this incubator up, that just bumping that knob accidentally seemed to cause great changes in the temperature. It is still exactly where I had it with the last hatch.

A scam story, CB?! Oh no... I am already ready to tell you that I am sorry!!

Frizzles are evil and addictive, Sizzles are addictiver. They're a horrid addiction, resulting in the total inability to deny you have a problem as well as a life long search for even neater colors to frizzle and Sizzle.

I have a leave in the bator remote wireless, indoor outdoor digital thermometer that lets me know the temps on both shelves and the digital with the probe in the wiggler so I know the actual temp of the eggs.

The BIG digital displays are so much easier at a glance at night. I've an interior analog spring hygrometer and the probe thermometer main that tells me the temp and humidity in the room it's in.

Sigh, evidentally the surviving marans chick, Faith, is going to be one of THOSE birds. This morning he was outside with momma first thing, as usual. When I went out to work on the fence I saw one PR chick, no Faith. Hmmm. Looked EVERYWHERE for him, no Faith and no body. I called, listened for a lost chick, no sound. I went to work. A couple hours later - I heard it, the lost baby peep. Probably triggered by the fear when I was using the power drill. It took awhile to vector in on the weak sound. Finally I tracked it to a small gap ---- under the well house brooder. Only the tiniest chick could have gone through that gap. I spent the next hour taking down the ENTIRE brooder, in order to be able to lift the floor he was under. TADA one ice cold miserable Faith.

I brought him in, he was stiff and immobile with cold. I gave him a hot bath, then blow dried him and gave him electrolytes and poly vi sol. Now he's begun peeping and drinking on his own.

Well, I was going to remodel that brooder anyway....... Sigh. He's just going to be one of those birds who needs to where I sign. " I'm about to be in trouble - Save Me..."

Part 2 second month

The trainers/riders called me the first month and said they had to go slow with her due to her knee injury and to much training or working was going to cause her knee to blow out. So I agreed to the 2nd month of training. During this month I called and wanted to come see how she was doing and I always got the response, we are not going to be there that day or I would get no response at all.

Then comes the 3rd month (October - November).

Due to the knee continuously swelling, they could harrdly work her and she was not finished. They will keep her this month for free and finish her training.

I say, Okay that is fine just call and let me know when I can come and see how she is doing.

The whole month, no call and no returned call.

CB GO SEE HER NOW as soon as you can get there, without CALLING. NOW. (big blazing red neon sign for bad sht happening) Go get her. Take a trailer, be ready with the number of a mobile vet. Those are BAD BAD, horrid signs and you will hate yourself if you let it go any further. I hate to say it but it may already be too late.

Unreturned calls are GUILT. Repeated unreturned calls are significant. Go before it is too late.

If you can't go - call that county humane society or animal control and ask for a welfare check, now.

Part 3

Then comes Winter and I am told they could not get all of her training done, but they will only charge for her feed $75 and get in the rest of her training.

I said, that is fine, it is not much more than it would cost to keep her here during the winter.

In January I paid another $200 and gave them deworming medication.

I finally got a hold of them again, after numerous no return calls at the end of February. I am told the daughter that was training moved out and now lives with her grandmother. So I told Mendy I will come and pick Ladybug up and when would be a good time. She said she would call and set a time for me to get her. She called 2 weeks later and said her other daughter is working with Ladybug and will finish her training, but they have to go slow due to her knee.

Well I went by the stable a few weeks later and no Ladybug and no one was there. I got an answer when I called and was told it is taking so long due to the fear of Ladybugs knee blowing out and to give her younger daughter another month to get her finished.

So I have called and called and called and no return calls.

Finally on June 20th, I ran into Mendy at the auction. I pulled up and she is as polite as she can be. I told her I would like to pick up Ladybug due to the fact I have her traded as a brood mare for a Quater horse filly and a Paint gelding, since her knee is so bad. I told her I would call her tomorrow and make a day to pick her up.

So I called and called and called and even went by the stables a few times and no one was there. I finally told Charlie (my Husband) that I had a feeling on Saturday and I needed to get to the stables NOW. So we went there and my gut instinct paid off, Mendy was there.

So I walk up and patiently wait for Mendy to get finished with what she was doing. After about 15 or 20 minutes, she finally acknowledges me and says Hi.

I said, Hi Mendy, I do not see Ladybug anywhere, is she over at the Jonesburg property? She said yes. I said, well I thought your daughter has been working with her for the past months.

That Lady went off her rocker, I am assuming it was due to the fact she was called out on her lies. She was very rude and told me she just wanted the horse off the property, we are even and she wants her gone NOW.

I thought, what the heck. I did not do anything wrong to her. I told her to let me know when she has her here and I will come get her. She could call me if she wanted and let me know as soon as Ladybug was here. She said, she will be here in 45 minutes. I told her, I have to go the long way since the bridge is out, but I will go get my horse trailer and be right back.

Part 4

So I get home run in and pee, grab a drink and out the door to load the trailer. I head right back over knowing it has been a little longer than 45 minutes.

When I get there, low and behold, not a soul in sight, but Ladybug is in the corral right at the driveway.

I asked Charlie if he brought the cell phone so I can call them. Of course not, he thought I grabbed it.

So we stand around for about 15 to 20 minutes and the little voice came across my head. It said, get your horse and get out of there.

I told Charlie, who is used to the voices in my head and he said, every thing is chained and locked. Well, here comes the voice again. Get your horse now and get out of there. So I look down. The pegs that hold the alumunum gate are upright and the gate lifts right off. Grandma has always told me to follow my first thought, it is always right.

I look at her feet and they are split from the ground up and the horse has runs that look like a cow patty. So I lift off the gate, get my horse, load her her and we put the gate back on. Being if your horse is on the property you are allowed 24/7 access.

When we get home I have a phone call from the trainers husband. Another rude, ignorant S.O.B. telling me if I took the horse, which he knew I did, I had best bring her back or I will be charged with breaking and entering and trespassing. I also owe them $750.

(I have already paid about $1200) and they cannot believe we left the gate off the hinges (so not true). So I grab the camera to get pictures and go outside and tell Charlie about the message on the machine. You ever want to see your husband turn red, tell him some jerk is trying to pull some bull like this.

Charlie comes in and calls Paul and of course they have words, bickering and trying to be the tougher guy. Then he hangs up and tells me Paul stated they could not train Ladybug because her knee was going to blow out if they did, which they have been telling me they had to go slow because of the knee, but she was being trained.

I have to feed so the end will be here shortly.

Gosh, CB, this story is Dickensian (after Charles Dickens' tales of woe which he serialized in a magazine to make money)! I am waiting for the next installment with bated breath!

I sure hope there is a happy ending!

Final chapter

By the way, Charlie also told Paul that we are keeping the message on the answering machine for our attorney. Which we really did not have one due to it being the same day.

So after Charlie tells me all of this, I come in and call Paul. I call and as always the answering machine picks up. So I hang up and call back, again the answering machine. Well as the recording is going I realize Paul was thinking it was Charlie and going to get him as a recorded message on his phone.

So I just politely told him he needed to call me. I am very upset about him stating we left a gate open, when we didn't and that my horse was never trained after I had been told repeatedly that she was being trained. So someone is lying and he needs to call me so this issue can be straightened out.

Well, I am sure you have guessed, he never called me.

So the farrier was out today and he is writting me a statement about her feet and how bad they were, which he has trimmed them up. We also lunged her for an hour and 15 minutes or so and have checked her knee every hour since. There is no limping and no swelling. Next Monday she has an appointment for a radiograph on her knee.

She is happy to be home with companionship and getting her grain, 2 days of grain and her stool has firmed up a lot.

I have been posting ads on Craigslist and other sites to find people in the area that have had similiar problems with her or ones that she has taken ownership of their horses and so far there is 4 people.

This time she apparently messed with the wrong person and I figure a group with the same complaints will get further than one on one. I will let you know how it goes.

You are probably wondering what is the scam part of this? I will explain:

When I went to pick her up and no one was there, I got really lucky.

1) Mendy makes the no contract deals with you.

2) If she likes the horse and thinks it can make a profit or is suitable for breeding, she comes up with a plan for you to trade yours for one of hers (I just did not want one of her unregistered for a registered)

3) She then makes excuse after excuse to keep the horse as long as possible.

4) When it comes time to pick up said horse, Mendy is nowhere around and Paul is there to collect the check (which really is not owed, or it is double what is owed)

5) You state that you do not owe that much and start agruing back and forth and Paul calls the police and police arrive.

6) Officer states it is a Civil matter and has to be taken before a Judge, but until then either horse stays or you pay fees and take horse home and file a complaint to try and get you money back.

7) If you take option 2, 5 months down the road you owe more boarding fees and they then get custody of your horse because you will never get it caught up and by the time you do the bill is way more than the horse is worth.

Pretty devious scam don't you think? This time she just tried to scam the wrong person, one that is not just going to let it go and allow it to happen to someone else.
