Who is with me?

WWD - Did all of your silkies pip in the "correct" place? I found it interesting that none of mine did and neither did...uh oh...someone else's that posted here (sorry, I forgot who it was that said that).

What, exactly, is considered "blue"? I get the impression, from some places, that it is anything that isn't black. None of mine came out black, so I am just wondering what I am to consider them. I say they are black, but... A few of them are basically gray.

Congrats on your hatch; that is awesome that it came out so well!

I need to find out about candling guinea eggs - when it is worth it to do it. With the longer incubation period, I am figuring that doing it before day 5 would prove to be uneventful. That's tomorrow though, so that's okay.

Depends on the breed. Blue shades vary a bit by breed.

In silkies a gray often starts out light and partridge marked, and matures to a gray body and silver head/hackles. And blues start gray or gray and white and grow to a solid blue/gray.

In Rocks and hard feathered breed blues end up looking laced and often bluer with darker blue heads. My blue sizzle Reposado (a tequila) has decent lacing, my blue rock Lenore better - I lost my best blue rock to a dog.

So blues can vary a bit by breed and by effect, even within a breed, light light blue, medium blue, dark blue all happen. You don't see lacing in silkies because of their feathers.

riqui, here is a chick to give you an idea of color. When I go to the barn I will get you a picture of what they look like now.

Okay that is a cross chick, once I saw the pic I bigger I knew I had the wrong one. Apparently I have deleted the Blue Andalusian pic. But that is the same coloring my Blues had

WWD, glad you hatched what you could, because honestly, I did not think any were going to hatch.

So Congrats.

I really figured this hatch was dead. Color me completely surprised that any were salvaged. But here they are.

And soon to be fluffy and photographed.

I'll end hatching season on that high note and fine tune my bators. Little Jug (wine cooler bator) needs a new fan and I need to add a nightlight and I may change the heating element, I want to tweak the shelving in Darthbator and Goliath needs stripping, staining and finish wiring. Got him new power cords, need to reorganize his wiring harness to account for the new thermostat and grounded wires. Everything was ungrounded - ack...

Raise, rear, coop up and sort poultry, I'll be plenty busy. Okay I'm tired just typing all that.

You made me tired just READING it.
