Who Misses Their Chickies?

Just keep hatching all the time like me.

I always have babies chirping away in the house. I would be so lost without that noise!!

Buy some chicken diapers and keep 'em in the house then! LOL

I love my chickies, but mine seem sooooo much happier when they're in their outside run in the daytime than they do staring at each other in their little plastic brooder, so I'm happy for them. They come on the patio at night under a light.

Next week at 4 weeks old they'll make the permenant move to the coop with no heat lamp and no "me" either. I'll miss them... but I'm glad they'll be out there instead of in a box on the patio.

I just moved the 2+ week olds out with the five week crew, except for the sizzles I intend to keep in the house for cuddling the next group. There is so much more room in the wellhouse brooder.

The three sizzles stay because they're good with the newbies and I think it helps keep the younger ones calmer.

I miss the noise already but I have to make room for whoever hatches this week.

hey walks with dog, how old are the ones in the pictures you posted? And where do you live? Climate wise ya know...
p.s. they're veryyyyy pretty chicks :-)

My youngest will be three weeks on Fri/Sat.

My oldest chicks will be six weeks Sunday.

Then I've the hatch due this week.

The hatch due in three weeks, and the hatch due in four weeks. (Chicks and poults set at the same time.)

I live near Knoxville TN so the six week olds still need to be indoors until the temps stabilize unless they're just out for a couple of hours in the sun on a good day.

Next week or two I'll move the largest into the built in brooder on the floor of the main coop.

This'll be the first year I've added more than two groups but you get a rythym to it.

I'm afraid to go to TSC

I live in a development, I have 1/2 acre, and already I have 8 chickens. Since February. Oh I WANT more no doubt.....

if I could make it pay for itself then...maybe....

this is stage two right? trying to justify. How many more stages and what should I expect before I end up with more chickens or hatching eggs?

Funny how I went from setting up a 3x9 run in a section of my 12x20' shed, to half the shed. And soon the whole shed! And we're adopting a 12x20 garage/shed as well. So, I have plenty of inside room for them so far (justifying) Fenced in back yard but still want to have a pen/tractor/something. Basically as big as anything I can put bird netting over. Gonna use a 20x40 leaf net from inground pool.

oops I ramble.
oh and
I bought my chicks in 3, 3, 2 sets - so that means if I get more...it would be probably in 3s right?
NO NO NO NO NO stop now!!!

NO no no. You're missing the progression, now you can't buy anything fewer than four and preferably six.

oh yeah, we keep adding chicken space, too. first, it was an indoor area, about 14' x 10'. Then an adjacent run, about 20' x 25', covered with wire to keep predators at bay. And now our former dog run is now home to ducklings. (Makes sense since our golden retrievers are indoors with us 24/7!) And we're about to add more outdoor and indoor areas for our new chicks...

when do you stop? never!

and as far as adding in small sets, well, we started with 5 and 5, then added a rooster. then a broody hen. we sold a few. then we bought 4 ducklings at TSC this spring and I bought 15 chicks the next day and we ordered another 44 chicks from two hatcheries at the same time.

so yeah, we went from less than 10 full-grown hens and roosters to suddenly being parents of nearly 70 birds!
