Who to order from?

Shipping is minimally stressful on a chick...remember they just came out of an egg before they were shipped. Unless you are ordering chicks in the dead of winter and they are shipped to or from a northern state or in the heat of summer there is actually very little stress on chicks. If i were you I would find someone to split an order with..or order 25 and sell what you don't want locally.

good luck

I got my 5 adorable little bantams from mypetchicken earlier this year.

Mypetchicken was really nice to work with, and their reps were happy to put up with me calling quite frequently right before the chicks were going to ship.

They shipped out Monday and arrived early Tuesday in PA. Their box was nicely padded with a still-warm heat pack.

Of the 5, all of them are still happy and healthy, and look like pullets.

I do have something to add about McMurray. Me bestie lost all her chicks that we split and I have lost 4. Although it has been a month they are replacing the entire order. Great customer service from them!

I just ordered from Meyer Hatchery and I have to say I was very happy with them. Their shipping was prompt and the heat pack was still very warm when I got them. The chicks were just peeping away all the way in to their brooder. They were relatively quick to start drinking and eating. I haven't lost any yet and they all appear to happy and healthy. I don't think I will be losing any either.

The shipping was around the $40 mark for only 6 chicks which was actually inexpensive compared to everyone else. MPC quoted me around $60 for shipping 6 chickens.

I got 1 Speckled Sussex, 1 White Leghorn, 1 Blue Andalusian, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Golden Sex Link.

This is exactly what I'm doing. My order will be coming in the next day or so and I plan to resell most of them to offset the costs of start up and to purchase a second coop.

I ordered from mypetchicken and mcMurray hatchery this spring. All 5 of my order from mypetchicken are doing well. We lost one of 26 from mcMurray and they credited our account. I like mcMurray customer service better, but I have nothing negative to say about mypetchicken really. It is a plus to be able to order a small number from them, but like a previous poster said, you can order the 25 minimum from mcMurray and Craigslist the rest. I posted 13 one week old chicks on Craigslist and they were gone the next day! The tough part is finding the availability of breeds you want from one place...so many of them are unavailable at this time.

I bought all my startup layers locally and pick up roosters (usually free) to keep the lines diversified. I order meaties and occasionally layers from Hoovers Hatchery in Iowa. I also currently have an order with a local hatchery for Delawares . It is s&s hatchery from Pequot Lakes, MN
