Who will lay first!? *pics included* UPDATE: First Egg 8/14

Today.. a little more squatting from Sunny and something strange..

I usually do not hear my birds much since the coop and their feed etc is on the back side of my home and we usually spend the daylight hours in the front room. Just about 15 minutes ago I heard loud distinct CLUCK CLUCK. .and BOK BOK BAAKOK.. Tried to see who it was. couldn't. It just assumed it was the "egg song" I hear about and rushed outside hunting for my first egg. No egg... still no nesting that I am seeing..

So as of today.. still no eggs.. I have squatting from Sunny, Speck and Camilla.. I haven't really seen them in the nest boxes at all but Camilla has been much more talkative in recent days. I scooped her up and put her in the box today and she did scratch and spin a bit. When I put Sunny in it, she was happy to sit while I pet her. I just don't want them laying somewhere I don't see it!! I run out and inspect the yard 5+ times a day!!

Frustrating..

My newest girls started screaming a week or so before laying. I can always tell if a new girl is getting ready. Some will squat but not always. I go by the egg song. This morning was the first day I have had the windows open. Finally cooler here in the Chicago area. My brain starts to wake up... I hear cars, crows and that silly Silkie girl that just started squatting and has been yelling all day (on and off) for like two weeks. I swear it is worse than 5 minutes of rooster announcing the day. You are so close...

Does anyone have a recording of an "egg song" for me? I have heard some odd things in the yard. A low deep. Boooook booook. Almost a growl. And very loud CLUCK CLUCK CLUUUCK ..
