Whole flock dead!

I have felt your pain and anger. I lost a whole flock to a pack of stray dogs / coyotes (could see the tracks in the mud) that dug under the fence during a very wet time of year. They left most of my dead chickens laying all around and only took a couple. It seems very strange to lose 50 all at once. That is a lot for dogs / coyotes to eat and carry off. Don't let this kill your desire to rasie the animals that you love and bring some happiness too you. Once the emotion dies down you can rebuild your flock. Goodluck finding the culprits whether four legged or two!!!

I had added 20 or so young pullets, not full grown, all but maybe 3-4 are still there. One the two big roosters were left at the since dead. My 2nd in command Roo is gone, only his feathers in one spot. My blue Silkie hen, white cochin mix hen gone. A few Japs gone, 2nd colorful Jap gone, blue laced red W gone, other new birds gone, polish gone! I don't want to waste more money on getting such nice birds if some retarded worthless animal is just going to kill them all off! The hole is at the back of the coop, not where their run is. Its another chain link fence to the house and street. There's tall grass all over, you can only see tracks where the chickens ran around.

I hope the others are just hiding. I still think that this is to many for even a pack of dogs or coyotes to carry off. With the rash of chicken thefts that have been reported on byc I would be thinking 2 legged predator. Since you are not living in the house that means someone might know when to come get the chickens.

I thought about that too. But they came on the same day and took them? The 'high tech' metal wire I had locking the coop human door wasn't touched in the slightest. It's 4ft off the ground and twisted so many times over, don't think a coon will get it's friends to hold it up while it takes it's time opening it. Idk...I really hope no person took them, if I would of been there and caught them...all heck would of gone up.

I'm thinking 2 legged also. I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope you can find out what happened.

Why on earth would someone steal a freaking chicken!? Are they really that expensive and highly prized they need to be stolen??

I guess I needed another reason not to like people in general...
I like you guys though, just don't like anyone til they've proven a reason to like them.

After reading the posts, am I understanding correctly; only one dead roo found? Nothing else? And all your fancy birds gone? Very much sounds like a 2-legger!! Who has been coveting your birds??

That was my thoughts exactly!

I am so so sorry for your loss!!

My father in law lost 24 chickens to a pack of coyotes about 6 years ago (Until recently I was under the impression it was a fox family, but FIL recently told me Coyotes) But it was the same thing. All of the birds were taken except for a lone head....
