Whole flock sick and not eating, Please Help

Is a vet an option?
Yes, we have one local that will see chickens, but by the time I get home they are closed. I might could have my husband take one tomorrow when he gets off work. We had already discussed if they weren't any better this evening I want to take our Rooster, Bill, to the vet and see if she can help. They all feel bad but he seems to feel worse.

I know this sounds bad, but I honestly struggle a little with the vet for chickens. I love them but the way I was raised we didn't take farm animals to the vet.

I took one in June for a badly broken beak. They had her in the back for maybe 5 minutes, not even sure they got her out. They didn't do anything except say to make sure she was eating and they charged me $35. Made me feel silly for going against my gut and taking her to the vet. I know this situation with the whole flock is different.

I understand, and I don't normally take mine to a vet, but I have lots of supplies and medications and can treat most things. You have many that are sick, which is unusual, so I suspect it's some sort of infection (bacterial, viral, or protozoal), or toxicity.
Thank you. I thought it was odd that it's hit them all at once and I know it has to be something in their environment for the ones inside to not be acting the same.
If they aren't any better or they get worse we will take one to the vet to see if she can help.

I've been thinking about your flock today. I agree with @Eggcessive . I think the stall pellets need to be removed, if your rooster is worse than the hens it could be because he's inhaling more of any off gassing from the pellets because he crows. I also have had issues with my run this year, I've been using alot of old mulch to keep it from getting muddy. It has helped a lot.

If one dies you could send it to this lab:
C.E. Kord Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory

I think necropsies (animal autopsies) are free for Tennesee residents.

This place does them too but a referral from a vet is required:
University of Tennessee- College of Veterinary Medicine

If you aren't close enough to drop off, this is how I send min:

How to Send a Bird for a Necropsy They need the whole bird, refrigerated, not frozen. If you live in CA, there are four labs that do necropsies on poultry (chickens, turkeys, waterfowl) for $20, limit 2 per submission. They do out of state necropsies, but they but they charge for those. You...

It is an unfortunate reality that chickens will die inevitably at some point. But what happens when several young birds die in succession? The cause of the death of your beloved bird may have been an illness. Isn't it useful to know what caused your loss(es) so you can prevent it from happening...
