Who's anxiously awaiting spring already?!?!?

I love winter here. Okay, it's harder work to make sure the animals stay warm and my feet are always freezing (I get this sock obsession in the winter), but there's something nice about the fires in the fire place and eventually the Christmas tree...I don't know...It seems warmer than summer sometimes even though it isn't temperature-wise.

Spring is lovely, of course, and I always have plans for spring like gardens and such. And hatching will be easier. There's just something about the winter though.

I have plenty area to raise them in the house, on the screened porch we covered in plastic, and my bantam coop I plan to heat for the seramas is coming so I'm still hatching despite snow already flying.

Shh... don't tell my husband I slipped a full carton into the incubator when it went into lock down for these to hatch. I figured a few days without turning sitting upright in cartons wouldn't hurt (so far this hatch I have 7 of 9 when the turner was unplugged sometime in the first week without me noticing) and it will have them hatching half a week earlier. Then I can slip them in the other bator just long enough to clean this one and put the turner in while he's at work before sticking the extra bator back in the closet. He may not notice that way until there are cute fluffies. He can't stay upset at cute fluffies.

I'm hoping for a broody this spring. I want more serama but I don't want to incubator hatch them. Other than that my plans for hatching next year are much lower than this past year. I want to make sure I have enough of my dark laying hens in case something happens so I don't end up with just 2 again. Hatch a few of my own seramas. Then see what happens when I mix bantam EE, japanese bantam, and serama.
