Ice for the last 3 days

My waterers are scattered all over the yard, so those wouldn't do me any good.

Plus I'd still have to thaw out the doves', turkeys', and quails' waterers, so it wouldn't really save me all that much.

Mtns of NC I had ice outside but not inside this morning. Next week however it will be 12 degrees one night so I am not sure it will be icefree inside even with a light over it. I have ask my hb to fix me a heater like that but he hasn't so far. sigh maybe later.

Not me! I had already made one Christmas tin water heater that I set my metal waterer on. It was clear and no ice this morning at 28 degrees. Then today I made another one for my big plastic waterer. I also lined the walls of the run below the tarp that covers the top with heavy duty plastic to block the cold winds. I found an outdoor outlet at Lowes that has a photo electric eye. It will turn on at dusk and you can program it to stay on for 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours after dusk. I have my light inside the coop hooked up to it and my 2 christmas tin water heaters are hooked up to a thermo cube, it turns on when the temperature drops below...I forgot, maybe 40 degrees? So, my chickens and I are set for the coming cold weather! I even got 2 60 watt bulbs to replace the 40 watt bulbs if it gets really really cold! I am quite proud of myself! However...I didn't get any decorating done inside the house or outside, still have piles of lights on the porch and the living room floor, and the empty boxes that the balls and stuff on the tree came out of...so all I have accomplished so far is the tree...oh well, DH is off the next 6 days and he said he would take care of it. But my chickens are happy!

Generally I can just pour hot water onto our waterer. Takes forty forevers, though.

If there is one thing I hate about winter, it's ICE!!! Ice in the dog bowl, ice in the chicken waterer, ice on the bottom step only so that you think it WON'T have ice...

I hate ice. And I'm the one who does animal duty.

Me! It's not that bad though, I just hit the ice in their watering pan with a rock. It has only gotten down to 28F so far.

Where is the post about the cookie tin waterers? I need to make a copy for a friend. I have searched and searched on this topic and cannot find it. I wrote it in the search bar too, and it has no hits. Thanks!!!
