whos breaking ice out of the water dishes already

I've only had to swap out icy for warm water twice. It's my own fault though. I have a new waterer that plugs is to keep it ice free. I have just been too lazy to find the right length extension cord. Once it is completely thawed out I will plug it in and see how it goes.

had to carry and break ice for the past week high was only 29 today tonight 15
no water heaters here at all for goats/ducks/chickens i try to dump at night if its cold but sometimes i forget
i try to give twice a day and make sure it dont freeze during the day.

This is our first winter with chickens and it is, and will be cold here. We have no power in the coop and we worry that they aren't getting enough water as it freezes overnight AND often during the day if the wind is blowing. We have 3 newcomers who are just getting used to new digs and the ability to free range but until they realize how great digging and pecking is they are staying inside. makes it hard to fatten them up for a long cold winter.
is there anything out there (I cannot find it) that is an alternative to a plug-in water heater? battery ops won't last long enough to be practical but I can't believe there aren't insulated sleeves or thermal containers to keep water liquid longer.....hoping I just haven't looked in the right places.
Anyone come upon anything that works?

You know what I found out today? You can have a galvanized heater under your waterer but it isn't worth a darn if it isn't plugged in.

Apparently I meant to but forgot--had to bring the waterer inside the house to thaw out so I could get it apart to fill it.

This is our first winter with Chickens. Water is always frozen. My husband is trying nipples.
I don't think they will work. HOW do you teach chickens to use the nipples?

I want to invest in a heater bucket. Does anyone have one? Which brand would you recommend? We do have electricity in our barn. Please answer. Thanks Aria

I am here in the mid-SOUTH and yet I've been having water freeze inside the henhouse in all of the waterers except for the big heated dog watering bowl. Most of the past three weeks this has been a problem.

How can this be a problem so early in the season when I live in the mid-SOUTH ???
