Who's got December molters?

I’ve got one doing her VERY best to barely hang on to a shred of dignity. She is my hardest molter this year, and last of the adults. No one looked bad this year. Half of my girls laid eggs through their molt this year, just a slower frequency.

thank goodness because none of my pullets are laying. :barnie

Helen says it is most definitely cold AND wet here and she does not appreciate it. She's the worst molt I've ever seen on my own chickens, but she's getting by. This was last week; she's turned a corner now and is looking like a stuffed animal now.

I had a hen just like that too a few weeks ago!

I have a couple finishing up molt and a couple in the middle of it. One (Lucky) is molting much harder than the other. We were out of town for five days, but I peaked in on them when I got home tonight and poor Lucky looks a bit pathetic. I’ll try to get pics tomorrow.

I had one go into a hard molt and 1 a sort of normal ,,,shes getting better now:)

Here’s poor Lucky. It doesn’t look as bad as it actually is. I’d say she had more bald areas than feathered areas... worst molt I’ve seen yet in my flock. It’s sunny and warm today, though, which is awesome!

Edited to add: Ruby’s butt is behind her. Ruby is having the longest, slowest molt of all time.

Eleonor, our Black Australorp just started molting a few days ago! We live in WA State. Temperatures get into to upper 20’s or mid 30’s at night! Mid to upper 40’s during the day! We are wondering if she will get cold during the night....hopefully the others will snuggle with her to keep her warm!
