You're so nice !

Do you charge them ?

Sounds like you could hatch a boatload of eggs !

No I don't charge them. My incubator can fit 342 eggs in it. There are 3 trays with 2 racks in each tray. Each rack holds 54 eggs. I set 1 or 2 racks weekly. I get about 4 dozen eggs a day from my birds but I sell most of them.

WOW !! That's about 6 eggs a day !

The opposite must be true too ! When you want eggs, they aren't laying them !

Pics would be great ! I love checking out the chickie pics but don't always have time to indulge myself. I'm supposed to be painting my chicken houses, but I need my husband to have a look and put in his two cents. (he's off tomorrow)

So far, I've painted 1/4 of a house a pale light pink (like strawberry ice cream). Not sure if he wants me to paint the whole thing pink (I should have bought a gallon then, not a quart) or will let me paint the other 3/4 of the house different colors. Then I have 2 more different chicken houses to paint.

YES!! Please post your pics when they hatch. Since we don't all hatch every single breed, it's fun to "live through others" and watch their chickie breeds grow up. It's almost like having that breed.....like a virtual chickie rearing (through seeing pics). Pictures say a lot more than just words can. So, hope you'll find some time to share your pics. I know I really like to see them and appreciate them.

Thanks !

Yes, sometimes it takes a whole day after that first peck. If you still hear cheeping, that's good.

Sometimes, on rare occasion, you can "help" it out. But wait an entire day. They will peck a whole line of peck holes. And then push open the crack and pop out.

If it's been longer than a whole day, you probably want to help it. We did have one die that pecked the whole line, but couldn't break free. We should have helped that one out.

Once they start pecking and it's been a day, they are probably ready to come out. They can dry out and get stuck it the egg shell. It all depends.

You're supposed to let them hatch naturally, but sometimes you do have to save one or two.

I've helped only a couple out and they were OK. They sleep a lot in their shell, resting and getting enough energy to finish the hatching process, pecking holes to make a line halfway across the egg.

Some that made the line and just couldn't push out or break the line free I helped. But they may need longer time in the incubator to rest and dry off. I don't like to move them out until they are more dry, not soaking wet. And I have a special one day old chickie bin for newly hatched chickies to rest and grow. They are so active after day 1. Big difference.

Keep us posted ! They should hatch on their own. (more peck marks after 1 day after the first peck).

Good luck !

Hope you'll share your chickie pics too !

21 eggs, so only about 15 should hatch into chickies ? Let me know what you get ! The 14th is coming up soon, next week ! Monday ?

Will check back for you then.

Will you post your pics here or on the Chickie Thread ?

What kind are your chickies ?

That's good to hear (no direct sunlight in the bathroom).

Just because we don't know the breed your chickens are doesn't mean they aren't a breed. I'm sure they are cute !

Hope you will post your pics of your parent birds and chickies ! Maybe you'll even get some new colored chickens that don't look like the parents !

Do you have a website ? Would be fun to see pics of Wildlife in Australia ! We put up a wildlife page of some of the wildlife around our house. Maybe your kids would like to see.

Check it out !

I'm not quite sure what the Flinder Rangers are - will have to research - are they mountains ?

Look forward to everyone's chickie pics.

I hope our one egg will hatch ! Hoping every day for more eggs ! Will have more in 2 weeks when we can take eggs from our one Ameraucana pair. Keep your fingers crossed that she's still laying by then !!

What do you think of bantam ducks ? My son saw one at the recent show and said they were so cute ! Little tiny white ducks with orange beaks. Too bad we don't have a pond. I wonder if they are more susceptible to predators ? (bantam ducks)

What are the predators of ducks or guinea hens ?
