Does Alli stop intestinal absorption of all fats, saturated and unsaturated? What about the omega fatty acids? There are plenty of good fats that make up a healthy balanced diet. From a nutritional standpoint, this just can't be healthy if it blocks the good and the bad fats.

Sorry Hennysmom. Wasn't accusing you of anything. Your post sounded like the criticism we fat people have received our entire life. I say fat because it's a shorter word and means the same thing. Yes it is absolutely about a total lifestyle change. That is the only way to loose and keep the weight off. It's an easy concept but not so easy to do. Food is an addiction for fat people. Lots of skinny people eat out of necessity, they enjoy food but can resist the stuff they know is bad for them. Fat people tend to eat and then find themselves thinking about their next meal for the next 2 hours. At least that's what I do. When you're dieting you think about the grapefruit your going to eat at break, then the salad at lunch. When what you really crave is a hamburger. Instead of a pill they need to reprogram our brains. Or eliminate our taste buds. Although that would cause a lot of suicides.

That's why my choice is the low carb way. It's a lifestyle change...but at least you get your good fats, without them escaping on you!

Yes it does absorb good fat. My good cholestoral is low so I take fish oil. When I was on the Alli it was absorbing the fish oil. So I took the fish oil at night before bed and it helped.

Beak - apology accepted - but again I never once judged anyone, nor would I. My husband has issues with is weight and keeping it off, has for years - especially given he is borderline diabetic, so losing weight is very hard for him - as it was for his father who was diabetic and had the hardest time losing weight ever. I myself have trouble losing weight, and while weighing in at what most people feel is "skinny" for me (5'4 and 129 lbs) - I am not comfortable at this weight and am nearly 15 lbs over what I normally am. I am a stress induced eater myself and since my father died - forget it - I see it.. I eat it - but then there are times I dont eat at all and I STILL gain weight, so I'm a double edged sword either way I go. Candy is my downfall, and chocolate.

I can put it on very easily, taking it off is an entirely different thing, especially when you have no hormones all of your own (all pills) and you suffer from fibromyalgia in a wicked way. Makes it very very difficult to lose even 5 lbs I assure you - so while I may look "skinny" to most people - my doctor thinks otherwise. There is such a thing as an obese thin person once you start measuring up BMI. I'm not - but... I know some thin people that are - they've lost most muscle and gained fat in the process.

I dont agree that all overweight ( I dont like the word "fat" - sorry, sounds degrading to me) people eat out of addiction and skinny people eat out of necessity - thats a very broad statement in my opinion. Food can be an addiction no matter WHAT your size, this is why we have anorexia and bulemia as well as overeaters - addiction is addiction no matter what your size. And - not all overweight people are addicted to food and just sit around stuffing their faces full of twinkies, ding dongs and pizza - obesity can be hereditary - but... in the world of science and nutrition, they are discovering more and more about the way our bodies work. My FIL, before he passed away 3 years ago - while he was a large man (but he was a very big man anyway - his hands were huge!) - was overweight, yes - but I can assure you that he didnt overeat one bit - and what was shocking to all was that his cholesterol and BP were better than MINE were/are, even at his size. He ate healthy things, not greasy foods or junk - yet...its the way his body processed carbohydrates that made it difficult for him to lose the weight. Once he began a very strict Diabetic diet, the weight came off slowly but surely over the course of 1.5 years.

Easy? No... but are all overweight people as you have protrayed them to be Beak? Absolutely not.... yet neither are skinny people - not all of us judge you know

as a matter of fact, I'd say the majority do not - at least none that I know or hang around do and my friends and family are all different sizes and I love them all!

I agree that not all people judge. I think there is more judgement at a younger age. I have been around skinny people that obsess over 5 lbs and how fat they have gotten. Then you look at yourself and think wow wonder what they think about me. There are a lot of people that were skinny as kids and young adults and got fat as they got older. My outlook probably differs from there's. I was the kid that was called fatso and tub of lard, that the other kids threw the most balls at in dodge ball because I was an easy target. Even when I was down to 170 I still felt like the fatso. I am certainly not looking for any kind of sympathy I just want you to know where I come from. I started getting comfortable with my appearance when I was around 30. The only reason I care about weight now is for health. There are a lot of skinny women married to obese men. Obviously they are ok with it. But there are still a lot of people out there who can't understand why that fat person in the plane seat next to them cant just stop eating and loose some weight.
