Ok now the story of my 1st spurring *ahem* (I will take pictures to post later for emphases)
So, I find a great deal on 4 laying pair of Silver Phesants and decide to meet these people to buy them. I knew I wanted to keep 2 pair myself and found so far 3 people on here interested in the other 2. Anyhow, I get there (the SAMS CLUB Parking Lot) 45 mins late thanks to a horrible ordeal of events which I won't go into.
SO, the people have already gotten sick of waiting on me & went in. SO, I waited an hour and they still hadn't come out. So I decided to leave the $ in the window & start catching birds.
They had a cage in the back of their pickup divided in 2. 1 (1/2) had the grls, the other 1/2 the boys. So I get the girls out, not much trouble. Go to get the boys and oh my....they have spurs. Not spurs like roosters, but long pointy skinny spurs, like 'Hook'em horns!' Spurs... So I try grabbing them by their wings/tails, but like guineas they drop their feathers so only choice is feet. I get the 1st two, no big deal. Oh forgot to mention, the whole time there's this 1 EVIL one hissing at me...not just 'Madagascar Cockroach' Hiss, but 'Indian Jone's Heart Removal' kinda hiss. So, I go in for the the 3rd and he FLIES out of the cage into the air and into the parking lot next to I-10! And then the only one remaining is the evil one. I try to get him and BAM...I'm Jesus! He slices this 1" longx1x4" deep gash in my palm.
So, my mom gives up on trying to catch the other 1 and tells me to give it my best. I figure there just flew away my $, but I outta try. So I get a jacket and start walking. Slowly this line of cars starts backing up to watch me. I start talkin to the pheasant and a pigeon & blackbird do too (like what IS this thing???!?!.) I get up behind him and just talk and put the jacket over him & grabbed him by his legs and BAM I CAUGHT HIM! I had people lined up saying "I'd have put $ that'd u'd never have caught that bird!"
Then as I'm walking up...my mom w/her jaw dropped & my kids cheering...the couple finally approaches and I say I don't want that evil bird, you keep him. And he like pretty much demands me keep him and just reaches in, picks him up, and charges me for him.
They are now at home & happy in my 20x10 aviary/run.
What a day, what a day. Oh and every time I apply peroxide it fizzes like crazy, so whatever 2 I keep will DEFINATELY be de-spurred this coming week when we rebuild/add on pens.
The End
