ok I just saw this...DEAD rooster WALKING

Oh yeah... dead rooster walking... he signed his own death warrant this morning by tagging me again. I had slip-on shoes this morning, and I saw him coming so I kicked my foot out at him to scare him off, and my shoe went flying. So I hopped over to get my shoe, and apparently he saw that as a "bring it on" maneuver and came at me again while I was picking up my shoe and got me on the inside of my left knee - broke the skin this time. But this is the first time that he kept coming at me. I can't let anyone else in the pen, now - he's too agressive and too big. Hubby doesn't know yet, but I can guarantee we're having chicken for dinner tomorrow night. His replacement is in the breeder pen already.

What kind of roo was he again?

He's a big beautiful boy, but I think I've given him too many girls and he's feeling a mite over-protective. I didn't raise him from a baby, so we're having a difficult time teaching him who's head roo...

LOL No. I am having the same problems with my SS roo because I didn't raise him from a baby either. He has never spurred me, just smacked my leg with his wings, but I am trying to get a baby to hatch from him that I can replace him with.

I was only kidding...I wouldn't feel right about giving him away or selling him... I wouldn't want that on my conscience. His replacement is already 12 weeks old...

Well, out of the 15 eggs I set for my first hatch, one lonely SS hatched so I am really hoping that this little chick is a boy so he can replace his daddy someday. It's a long ways off, but will come eventually. Really his dad would be a great bird to have in the yard to ward off predators. He's just hard on my very small children. I see a stew pot in his future.

I'm sorry... I know just how you feel. On both counts - the dismal hatches and the roos.

Our luck just has to change soon!!

i have NINE old english game roosters, there fighting chickens, it hurts soooo bad when i get spurred. I had a rooster go to spur my leg and i got my foot up and he got stuck in my boot :] he deserved it too.

The stew rooster has never came at me but the other night my grandson tried to pet him and the roo went after his hand with both feet. That was the end of the aggression. Been nice ever since but nobody but me takes care of the flock. I have to keep an eye on him my 4 grandchildren all come to visit. My oldest grandson (11) is the one he jumped at. John

I got Slifer when she was a 3 month old, so I didn't raise her either...that was the ONLY time she ever spurred me...

When she bit me, I'd press her to the ground and hold her there til she stopped fighting.
Or I turn her on her back and hold her until she stopped...Or I'd grab her comb or hackles and give her a quick shake.
So if you have the time and inclination you can teach them...I would've rehomed her IF she hadn't been a crowing hen...I KNEW noone would want her especially since she wasn't laying and with her crooked feet she'd have been soup too.

I never kicked her either. I did smack her on the butt once. She gave me the most shocked look LOL

he's a beauty AKbirdbrain...if I could have a roo...darn
