Why are my chickens not laying a lot of eggs?

How often is 'sometimes'?
It's possible that they are laying outside the coop and run if they free range even for a few hours.

Our neighbor thought his birds werent laying but come to find out they were...across the street in the neighbors bush. Some birds like to hide their eggs. Mine are good about laying in the coop though

No problem. The lack of protein might have affected production. When was their last molt? That could also affect egg production.

Your Pekin drake isn’t harassing your hens? Not a good idea to have a drake with chicken hens. They can try and mate with them and most of the time it is a death sentence for the hens. Not saying that is the problem but might bear some watching.

I’ve had with them for about a year now and he has never tried to hurt them... he use to have his own coop but his friend got ate by a fox so I put him with the chickens because I didn’t want him to be lonely..
